How to increase search traffic to your website

This is a very good, plain-English write up. Nice work, Steve.

One of the common sense nuggets I will pass on to people if I am asked is that if a person isn't going to make sense of your page when they read it, neither will the search engines.

12 years ago, it was popular to use the bottom half of your page to put in all sorts of random words to try and elicit search results. Literally, people would stuff in all sorts of "keywords" (which may have had nothing to do with their actual content) in very small font and take up 1/2 (or sometimes more!) of the length of the page. Crazy. Times have certainly changed!

I still come across that from time to time and wonder what the heck they're thinking? Or having meta keywords that have no relevance to the site whatsoever.

Yep, there are still a lot of sites out there that do this. It is just amazing to see it.

Thats a really well defined article. Thanks a lot for that. I have bookmarked it.

This thread is worth making sticky.

Great tips. Just wondering, is anyone using any particular tools to manage your SEO functions? I know there's this tool called Internet Business Promoter that comes highly recommended. Does anyone recommend anything else?
