How to get customers

just to make it clear that PR doesn't mean you will rank high in search engine. PR has nothing to do with page ranking. Some people are commenting in this topic that with PR4 you will go high in ranking and they are wrong.

Just to clarify a bit - PR is page rank. What I think you're referring to is the connection between Page Rank and SERPS (search engine results pages). I hear the same from many SEO experts - that high PR doesn't relate to high SERPS. My thoughts are, if nothing else it sure doesn't hurt your SERPS.

What's the end result you're looking for? Mine is to maximize hits and conversions on my sites. Whatever leads prospects to my sites has to be relevant to the services I offer. From there, it's a matter of marketing content and calls to action, maximizing my conversion ratio. :D

I'd recommend that you sit down and make a business plan to really analyze how you plan to get customers, how much money you plan to make, etc. before actually launching the business

I am new to web hosting, and I had no idea so many would recommend looking for clients off the web. My plan so far was to advertise locally using magnetic ads that I can put on my car. I haven't really considered much beyond that. I plan on contributing to hosting forums, and using some google ads online. I'm really not happy with the current web design; so, I think I'm going to tweak that before I really start pushing. Thanks for all the great suggestions in this thread.

Hello,
I would say to start locally and build from there. then use some of that revenu to advertise on the net.

I love your smart technique.

How much student ends up to be loyal clients, smart guy?

Another one that I found that worked well was, I host for html classes for the local schools. Getting in to the class is a bit of work, but if you can have the teacher plug your site, or if they will let you host the class for free for the semester, you end up keeping a lot of the students after the class ends.

That was / is by far the best bang for the buck I've found.

If you have friends in college or taking classes, this is REALLY easy to get a plug in the class.

You have pretty good start having PR 4. Just try to free advertising, word of mouth, advertise locally to target the local audience.

Any host that finds satisfactory methods of increasing their customer base while maintaining the best ROI are not going to divulge their secrets. :o

I will suggest one thing tough. It does take money to make money. So if you are not doing any type of advertising and expect customers to somehow mysteriously find you and buy your services, you're going to be very disappointed and not be in business very long.

Congrats on the PR4 though. That's a step in the right direction.

Aside from posting on forums, take a big advantage of web hosting directories that allow you to add your company and plans for free. Aside from that, there are paid PPC hosting directories and even paid email leads but I have found that the email leads are starting to get really expensive IMO..

Getting involved locally is the best idea in my opinion. This includes flyers, newspaper advertising, and just spreading the word to people you know.

People talk and word of mouth is the best advertising!
