If your gonna run your own node, you need some serious money etc, but beginning by reselling will help build your site a reputation etc first, you dont want to throw everything in first with no knowledge i guess?
 
Well it depends on your budget if you can handle easily then only you should proceed.

Remember "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"
 
I think you should buy one VPS with Virtualizer and use it. You can assist your client also with it. As soon as you are satisfied with it and have budget for a dedicated server go ahead and buy it and start creating VPS for your clients.
 
its particularly depend on your orders.which configuration of vps they need?!you can collect good offers for resale vps from providers at first and if your customers reached to the amount than can include dedi server cost attempt to buy server.
also do you have any experience for ded server management?it is very important.
 
Having a dedicated server(s) is a must if you want to start selling VPS plans.
Highly educated tech. support will be a key factor to your business, offering full-time assistance to your customers.
However, you can start selling unmanaged VPS plans at the beginning and then hire sysadmins for the full server management.
 
First buy a dedicated server and then install OPENVZ and ocnfigure it and you are all set to offer VPS. But please note that you need plenty of IP addresses to assign each VM its own
