How to attract customers

Hello! I was thinking of going for the "Facebook/Google ads" route but it seems like this is not a viable advertising solution yet (especially for a starter like me).

How do you advertise your promotions? Do you have certain rules in crafting your promotions? Thank you for sharing your ideas, guys :)

best attractive tools for customers is "fair price" actually first factor that customers check is price and comparing your prices with other hosting companies, these days there are a lot of options and usually people choose those companies with low prices

I gave Facebook Ads a shot and really haven't seen a difference. I think I need to invest more into them before I see something noticeable though.

never had much luck with facebook or adwords to attract customers.

I find what works for me is about twice a year i will run a special promotion on ebay which attracts customers and i have enough anti fraud and security systems in place to weed out any fraud orders.

This is a great idea! I never thought about trying use Ebay to promote my business, I do all my shopping on Amazon so I forget the Ebay is still around.

Me too! after reading this I think I'll consider this one as part of may advertisement campaign. :smash: Very nice tip! :D

To those who give promotions, do you have any rules when you do your promotions, like for example, you only give a certain number of promotions per year? I'm planning on doing a "per occasion" promotion (Christmas, New Year, etc), but I felt like this will make the brand "overly-promoted", thus lessening the quality. I don't know :dknow: Care to share your tips, guys?:)

Yes running promotions "per occasion" (Christmas, New Year, etc) is the best idea. also run a special birthday promo ( the week you started your business).

I also used to sell toys at summer fairs and country shows and always used to place an advert in show programmes. it would coast anywhere from £50 to £100 and only last week i had someone enquire about taking out hosting who referred to an advert from 3 years ago

Also a nice touch is at christmas if you can afford it is to send all clients a xmas card and maybe a gift. I send all my clients a xmas card and a fridge magnet calendar. I was that busy last year with business and a health issue i plain forgot and i have a couple of long term clients stated they missed their calendars, but like all my clients understood

What else do you recommend to do in terms of online marketing, except special offers "per occasion"

You need to set up a facebook page and a twitter account in the business name and then have links on your own site to these and provide advice and adverts on these along with blog posts

Uhh, hosting is definitely not the business to make loads of money. For me, it's more about learning and slowly (multiple years) expanding.
Also, the best method seems to be to simply put in as much effort into your website and support as possible. Customers will notice quality.
If you yourself have a ton of websites that needs maintaining anyways it's a natural step to go into hosting.

The Hustle is key, relationship building, word of mouth are all key options for building your brand and clients. Another option is to build your connections of web developers/designers. Offer them free hosting for their website in exchange for using your services for their clients. It's tuff for the avg user to know where to turn with so many options and so many levels of pricing. Because it is so easy for someone to set up shop, there are boatloads of web hosts that price them self's so low as to think that they will be king of the hill, without stopping to understand gross profit and the time it takes to maintain your clients. Striving for longevity, that you are reliable and you are in this business for the long haul may be helpful as well. But as you can see with the OP's web site now out of business or offline, it is not easy.
