How many hours a day do you work?

I work anything from a 1hour a day, to a 24hour day, im a NHS career for an epileptic woman, so my hours completely go based on what she requires.

I just sit around, chat, and drink tea and coffee all day, entertain the children, and walk the dogs sometimes.

I take my laptop with me half the time, and just browse the internet, im only really needed if she has a fit, and to make sure she takes her pills.

Depends on the day of the week. I easily put in 80+ hours per week, but love what I do (all internet/hosting related).

I wise man once said.. "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life". ;)

That being said, I guess I'm with Steve and his 80+ hours, easy.. :D

I do about 10 hour night shifts in a takeaway / indian restaurant and must do about 4-6 hours a day in my own business and work on tickets whilst working.

Hiring staff was a good option I also took, which they do about 10 hours a day for me :)

Do the math, only leaves time to sleep! :)

I can manage a few hours a day to a 15hr day depending on what is going on. That does not count the overnights or when its that lovely time of year (Defcon time) and we have a few nights where we are up for those full few nights with random breaks. I love when all the script kiddies come out, then again I love coffee too.

Paul who says you are allowed to sleep :D

I am usually at my PC from 8am till midnight/1am, most days, but if a client has an issue i am well prepared to say up untill its sorted.

the longest i have worked in a row is 74 hours (i dont recommend this)

Yes who said we are allowed to sleep how come you really provide 24/7 support you should have a complete prepared team for that and you should always monitor every thing about your business sleeping or relaxing isn't allowed in our business the only thing is allowed is always develop your business and try your best to make it in the best highest ranks

a lot of hosts are now using "24/7 live support" which means a human support agent is available 24/7 and plain "24/7 support" which means they have a comprensive FAQ/Knowledgebase etc. available 24/7.

Yes that's true and we as provider have the responsibility to work much harder to make hosting business more easier and reliable.

If as a provider you can find a reliable server with a good DC support infrastructure and with more and more automated software around now and if you have your server security upto date then you can relax slightly.

We have many long term clients that we never hear from (support wise), we also have a large KB which answers a majority of questions that otherwise would need to be answered by support tickets /live chat.

As a one man band i dont work 24/7 (normally from 8am til midnight), but i can work longer if support is requested

Done 72 hours and boy, that was a funny coffee time haha!

You guys doing 80 hours a week are crazy ;)

I do around 40 hours work myself, the rest of the time is for enjoying life and spending time with my family.

These days, I generally am present 8-12 hours during the week and it varies on the weekend. That doesn't mean I'm working, that just means I'm present :)

I remember my 18 hour days, but we now have staff to take care of much of that. I now spend most of my day marketing and networking and attending conferences/events. I still have to put in the time, but I'm no longer doing what I was doing 10 or 15 years ago.

I do around 40 hours work.

24/7 Web hosting support

if you only work 40 hours.

That doesn't necessarily mean that a user isn't available 24/7 to tackle client issues. It could be 40 cumulative hours per week.
