How did you get started in web hosting?

I am still a newbie at the web hosting business. I started out a web designer with my own good idea for business. I went and found one hell of a great hosting company and started my business. In the first month I found out about reseller hosting and decided it would be a great idea if i could host my own clients. Heck It would make for a better sell and the clients would like it better. So I started a reseller account with that same host. A great host by the way. I am one of the lucky ones to find one with my first one. I will admit I did alot of research before I picked my host. Just the fact that you are here asking IMHO means your on the right track.

Hi,

There are two options to start hosting reselling,
(1) Buy a dedicated server and you will have all control over your server, you can create your own plans, pricing, features, etc. This will cost your high.
(2) Second by a regular reseller where main hosting provider will rent some space and you can resell it as you like, you dont have control over your server and configuration. But if you are non technical person then this will help you lot.

Another simple option is to create a directory where you list all web hosting company with their affiliate banner and you will earn great commission on reselling their service.

<<MOD NOTE: Advertising is not allowed.>>

I think this will help you better.

I've done a lot of domain name reselling, but haven't yet dabbled in web hosting. How does someone get started in this? It seems like a smart option. Any tips would be appreciated.

We started with an Hsphere cluster offering shared, virtual servers and reseller hosting. Since then we have moved to primarily offering dedicated hosting and VPS. If you are interested in getting into reselling I would go with Cpanel/WHMS. Hsphere is a powerful tool that automates everything from signup to billing but Parallels doesnt give it the attention it deserves and frankly Hsphere can be a bit confusing at times. We have been using it for years so we know it very well but its a lot more confusing than cPanel for sure.
