Hosting is tough - but getting worse

Cheap service does not mean bad service or support. I know some cheap hosts that are great at support/service.

I know some mid range and expensive hosts that i would not touch with a bardge pole as they provide shocking support

I agree to a point. Services can be very budget friendly but at the same time, it has to cost enough to be profitable. We offer budget hosting packages, pack in a free domain name also but price our services so we can support our clients - 24/7 support by chat, tickets, email and phone.

Just to compare, you won't get that on a hosting provider charging $1 per month - God forbid $1 per year :).

Look at neighbour forum, 2-3 years ago when you post an offer in VPS offer thread, it might be stay in first page for a day or so. Nowadays, no more than 18 hours you are already in the second page.

And about cheap, just because limitation on other neighbour forum which set the rule of monthly price at max $7 a month and this is the beginning of price drop in this industry.

Well, we do offer web hosting packages for $1/mo and we do provide Skype, email and chat support. Oh yes, and a phone too, though nobody uses it, like ever.

I see your point, though, as I keep saying the same. Hardware costs money and professionals don't work for hugs and kisses. If you DO provide great service - you should charge for it. It is business, not charity, after all.

tried to get our clients to use ticket system or live chat as these can be linked their accounts, but does not work, most clients contact us through facebook messenger, never by phone or skype

In my opinion everything will still exist in future both web hosting and VPSes cause they are quite different for many aspects.

They will probably be sold for such a cheap price though as many currently do, especially for the VPS Plans.

Hey,
You are right, Spammers and abusers are also a great headache, if you are decreasing down the price, spammers will misuse your network and if your prices are high, you will not get sales. We are just focusing on quality customers and providing them support.

Quality clients will be lesser in number but they understand what hosting is and what are certain limitations, they are nice in their language and accept some un controlled circumstances.

Well if you secure your servers and use security systems like maxmind and fraudrecord at the order point then any spammers etc. can be stopped before they get on your system

Unless an order is placed by a current client it is not auto setup as we always check the clients details with fraudrecord before accepting an order.

Yes, it's a tough Business to be in and it will be harder in the future. People want more resourses and support. Then expecting the greatest support in the world.

Don't try to attract "cheap" things but try to attract medium customer who does not care If your price is $6/m or $9/m per VM.

Mistakes: Many company focus on new customers and they don't care about their existing customers, they spend thousands of money on getting a new customers but they don't spend money for existing customers(better support, gift or loyalty program, etc)

Agreed, compared the market, you can easily set your proper price for your clients, and it is not too cheap.Cheap price would attract some guys to abuse your resource and affect others clients.

Of course there are some gold web hosting providers out there. However it's hard to find them.

You post a common topic that every hosting companies have to face it from scratch. It takes long time for you to build reputable band to tract more clients.Right, you need to be patient and build long cooperation with your clients.

Its not that hard if you do research right, but even when they look good and everything points to them being good, they are far from being good.

so trial and error

Give some examples when they everything seems to be good, do you mean that thier support would be lacking, knowledge or uptime etc.

I believe he is referring to companies like GoDaddy and HostGator.

Huge marketing budgets and big affiliate payouts means you see them all over the place.
However this does not mean they provide quality services or support!

Also i myself while look for servers have done research before purchasing and then once you purchase you find providers have not deployed servers correctly, have no knowledge or little knowledge, even say you get things which you dont.

Hosting is and will always be hard, people think it's so easy to start in this industry and it technically is. All you need is a reseller, a domain and finally a billing system, and you are set to sell hosting.

The worse time of the year for hosting businesses is the summer where the summer hosts come in, but yeah and if it's not the overcrowded market there's the well known providers who get recommended first.

So you struggle to get anywhere. That's where VPS come in they are the future in web hosting, because it's harder to start a strong reliable VPS company because you need a good network and good servers.

The people who try to get into this market use the cheap OVH company Kimsufi and they are so reliable McDonalds would be a better provider. So they struggle to stay up and you get customers from them.

Yes the summer Kiddie hosts come out and say hey i have a reseller account and domain, so now i am a web host, i will give you unlimited everything for $2 a year

You have to find what works and stick with it. Back when i was selling at $15 per gb i was getting about 10 orders per day i changed it to 10 and lost alot of customers new and old. I tried to change it back and it didnt work. Moral is dont try to fix what isnt broken. Be yourself

I don't think that there are as many "summer hosts" as people make it seem like there are.

have you not looked at ebay and gumtree as soon as the summer holidays arrive. cheap 'we give everything for £2 a year' hosts treble and as soon as the summer holidays end they all vanish
