Hello Everyone from the Netherlands!

I’m Marco, based in the Netherlands, and I work in the Internet/DNS space at SIDN Labs, the research group of the .nl domain registry.

I’ve been working with DNS for quite a while, mostly from the technical and infrastructure side, but I’ve recently become more interested in the domain industry and the things happening around buying, selling and discovering domain names.

One of the projects I’ve been working on recently is RFC 10023, which defines a simple DNS convention for signalling that a domain is for sale. I’m particularly interested in what this could mean for automated domain discovery, and I’m curious to hear how people in the domain community look at that.

Anyway, happy to be here and looking forward to learning from the discussions and meeting some of you!

Cheers,
Marco

Thanks everyone!

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, or if there's anything I can do to help with the ForSale method described in RFC 10023!

RFC 10023 provides a simple, low-barrier and universal way to signal that a domain name is for sale - using nothing more than a DNS TXT record.

The RFC was only published recently, but we're already seeing quite a bit of traction! 🚀

Welcome from the UK
Thank you!

I had a look at https://knox.oxnames.com/domain-search/ (nice design, btw) and tried searching for 'crashcourse.uk', which is for sale. But your website simply says, “That exact name is taken.”

I wonder if support for RFC 10023 might be useful to you - or if it doesn't really fit your business model, perhaps because directing visitors to an alternative domain is more valuable to you?

Thanks man we have spent a lot of time developing the new portal and especially the Domain system since WHMCS front end really sucked at that, the AI search is also cool.

Yes we do not really offer what is for sale but it is a good idea to look into it where we could offer a brokerage service I guess but we wouldn't want to try and upsell someone else for sale Domain with no kickback.

Genuinely good idea though, thank you and thank you for the feedback you made my day - I spent a lot of time on the Domain search! We could consider integration though.

ℹ️ Just a quick update, because since the publication of RFC 10023, a number of tools have already incorporated support, and I thought it was worth mentioning them here:

  • ForSaleDNS.net - a very early adopter and a great implementation, as far as I'm concerned.
  • for-sale-dns.hx-std.com - a more basic lookup tool and record generator.
  • TLDX - a tool that helps you find available domain names fast.
  • happyDomain - centralizes the management of domain names.
  • IPWhois.net - a great lookup tool.
  • Inspect My DNS - another nice tool.
  • IPAddress.to - a great set of tools, and the API output includes some nice information for debugging syntax errors.

I try to keep up with these developments and maintain the full list on rfc10023.nl. Let me know if you find something missing there that I should add.
