I'm half Irish, so I'm half green today. 😀 Notice the green smile (not the teeth).

I know Conor is out dancing somewhere today, partying. If I remember right, he has a special outfit just for today. 😀
 
Has it been a year already!?

I only learned that it was St. Patricks Day today because my calendar on a mobile told me so.

Have a good time everyone who is celebrating.

Just don't drink and post. 😀

I unfortunately missed St. Patrick's this year 🙁 I've been sick for the past 9-10 days and for the first 4 days literally couldn't eat or drink even water 🙁 Good thing is, I dropped some weight 😉

So my St. Patrick's celebration was skipped this year, but when I get married in June I'm sure there'll be enough drinking and dancing 😉

Hopefully everyone and a safe and happy holiday!

Thanks guys. I met Kim through match.com 2 years ago this month actually. During October-December we had made a deal that if I was unable to find/purchase the truck I wanted (Hummer H1 Alpha) for the price I wanted, then I would buy a ring instead 🙂 Now you'd think that the girl would be doing everything NOT to find the truck, but she actually wants it more than I do!! Even after the ring was purchased she's still finding various deals and contacting dealerships to find the right vehicle. The goal now is to have the truck by December of this year. We'll see 😉

With the gas prices like they are today (and climbing), are you sure Hummer is the choice you'd like to stick to? 😀
 
Yep- it's the truck I've wanted. You have to keep in mind that I work from home, and my current vehicle (Dodge Durrango) maybe received 5,000 miles on it last year, and that included a 3,000 mile trip. The furthest distance that I drive locally is 8 miles, and that's to the airport when leaving town. Most of my driving is less than 1 mile these days.

I'd still have the other two vehicles also, but the Hummer is one that I've wanted for a very long time - especially as a camping/recreation vehilce. There's a few Hummer Clubs in Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City, so there's always an offroad trip etc.

It's just one of those things that are budgeted for. Some people budget for vacations - the truck would be my vacation. 🙂

I can certainly understand the dream, Conor. 🙂 I am not actually that familiar with Hummers. How powerful are they? What's their consumption like in the city?

I've read last year that they were discontinuing the line altogether. Did that go through, or they decided to keep the production?

Certainly can understand your desire for a hummer and the trips that will no doubt ensue, have a Land Rover Defender 110 (Dark Green) as one of my toys 😛

Have it kitted out to the teeth and have done many an off road challenge and trip as well as a recent round trip from the UK through Germany and France as part of a convoy of a LandRover convoy (3 deffenders and a freelander, around 20 friends and family) ... Still remember the funny looks from the French villagers.

Though in a hummer I'd hazard a similar mentality will develop to that of the defender in that you will forever be pulling ford pickups and assorted 4x4's out of tricky situations at every opportunity and as well as the strange waving at other hummers/defenders 😛 and lodering over smaller vehicles 🙂... can think of many a funny storey 🙂

🙂 I've been to a number of rockcrawls and muddy holes in which it was usually the hummer helping the Susuki, or heaven forbid, a Honda SUV with chrome side steps 🙂

I'm not after the hummer that will sit in a garage and get used on surface streets, the vehicle was designed for offroad. There are two years that I like - 1996 (before the government got involved with ABS and various other "safety features", and then 1999 which was the last of the great years for the turbo diesel. 2000 was good too, but 1999 performed better. Prior to 1994 there's no A/C and as much as I like offroading, I like having A/C when I'm driving home 🙂 I require the CTIS (automatic inflate/deflate of tires), the second fuel tank and of course I want the wagon, not the pickup version.

As far as gas mileage on a City Street, you're looking at under 10mpg. I won't even look at the Gas vehicles. The H1's are not designed for driving 80mph down the highway, and if you do it, you'll find yourself with broken drivetrains, gunky transfercases, costly repair bills and various other problems. For a Diesel you'll run between 10-12mpg on any newer truck than 1996/1997 and with a 42 Gallon tank, that gives you a little room to wander!. Stack a few jerry-cans on the back door and you'll get an extra 10 gallons. Anything prior to 1996 I think was only 1 23 gallon tank. If you can keep the truck in the 60mph range on the highway you can get up to 15mph with the Turob Diesel.

They're definitely a TOY vehicle, and the Land Rover (along with the old Willie's and older hardcore Jeeps) are probably the best for offroad adventures. I'm restricted in areas that I can go due to the width of the vehicle, but there limited terain that a hummer CAN"T go on.

I had a Ford Excursion for a while, and the waving is definitely for people in a class of their own. A friend of mine used to say that the only reason other Excursion or Surburban drivers would wave at each other was because nobody else was that high on the road 🙂

Give me a Land Rover, a Snorkle and a box of Jaffa-Cakes and I'm set for the day 🙂
 
With regards to the discontinuing of the vehicle, they did stop production two years ago I think it is now (part of the GM bankruptcy). A company in China was to buy the brand, but due to some regulation the sale never went through. They were some Industrial Company, not even a car company, but they wanted the technology. I don't remember when the last H1 rolled out, but the last of the H3's went out in 2010.

Not sure wether Amen or Huura would be appropriate to add to that but I would certainly agree.. and as to the hummer versions I could say the same for the deffenders the newer with a the ford transit engine isent as powerfull as the former and the fuel efficency is roughly the same at 21mpg, both good off-road vehicle in their own right though and I would hazzard the Deffender being the more pratcial mind 🙂

And the Hight is certainly an advantage, once had a BMW m5 attempt to park in a parking space I had begun to enter, rolled down the window and knocked on his sun roof.... he soon decided to move 😛
