Lisa, is that your web site?

I also have a question. I have developed a software product that I have full right to. The size is around 740 MB and it currently takes in around 1300-1500 GB of daily transfer (it doesn't have that many download per day as we use it solely for company use), so the server load is almost non-existen. I have been looking to cut my costs of the servers I have and your $4.95 a month with unlimited bandwidth sounds like a terrific idea substitute! Can I use it?

For $4.95 wow!
Can I use an entire 1Gbps of Bandwidth :D

Well, Lisa has departed before responding. Since it will most likely entertain me, as well as you (hopefully), I decided to follow-up with a company itself. I will keep this thread live as my journal, for educational purposes.

My email to their sales team service was send November 7, 2005 at 1:49 PM EST:
Greetings,

I have a question. Our company has developed a software product that we have full rights to, the software is used internally within corporation. The size is around 500 MB and it currently takes in around 1300-1500 GB of daily transfer (it has only few downloads per day, so the server load is almost non-existen.

We have been looking to cut costs that we currently spend on servers and we found that your $4.95 a month plan with unlimited bandwidth matches our needs ideally. Can we sign up without any problems? And do you accept PayPal?

Thank you.

But why is her advertising still being allowed here? Lisa just seems like she is advertising her own company and left (without even caring of possible banishment.

In my quest to uncover potential flaws this company might have, I looked at their website more closely and found this publicly displayed information in the footer of every page:

1. CNet: Ranked #1 on Speedmeter.
Speedmeter? I made a search for it, but failed to find anything close to what would test webserver4life's speed of servers. I did, however, locate one CNet speed test (http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html), however, that doesn't test the speed of anything but your local modem's speed. In other words, it "calculates your bandwidth speed from the CNET Internet Services site." How does that translate into "speedtest" (of what) is unclear.

2. Ranked #1 "speedtest"... @ webhost-index.com
The image is so small I had to zoom it a bit. Again, another ranking? I tried visiting the website webhost-index.com, but to my *big* surprise it does not exist.

3. Best of the Best - HostingCatalog
My favorite. Best of the Best - of what exactly? It looks like a well made graphic that I failed to locate. HostingCatalog - there is only one site that is a PPC engine for hosts that has no Best of the Best ranking or category whatsoever. I visited a few top hosting directories and made a search for best of the best online, however, nothing close came up.

It is not allowed. It is being let to be, for sake of public amusement and experiment. If our theories on unlimited bandwidth are correct, what will do more harm to this company: hiding this thread and no user ever being able to find it, or leaving it publicly available as research material?

Lisa seeked attention. I might as well give her what she wants.

I am impressed. I received a responce within 30 minutes at 2:15 PM EST. I am even more impressed that I am being allowed to sign up.

Customer Service @ Webserver4life.
Thanks, Lisa! I knew I would reach you.
So my immediate responce was:
Terrific! I will be signing-up very soon.

Our software is just a regular file that is being held on a server as central download location for our company.

Regards,
Artashes
So, my next step is to actually run this experiement. If anyone has a file around 500MB (zip or whatever), that contains a software (preferrably), backup or documents you have full rights to, that you'd like to donate toward the cause (thus give me full rights to use it on the server for the duration of the experiment), please contact me.

Oops, I think I made a mistake in my calculations.. 500MB a few times doesn't make 1500 GB per day, but rather 1.5 GB... Quite a difference, but still, if its downloaded 20 times a day... 10 GB/day times 30 days = 300 GB. Can you sell it for $5?

I don't know about this particular host, but there would be hosts out there that would not mind you using 300gb of data transfer per month if it is used for pure file transfer, as that puts little to virtually no load on the server.

My theory is that most of these "unlimited" hosts have reseller accounts. I am willing to bet Art could "break" their account.

Alright, so a $4.95/mo plan seemed like a good way for me to test this host's unlimited transfer theory. Exon even helped me with files I could distribute (around 750 MB in size). I was in process of setting my account up when suddenly I noticed I wasn't going to be charge $5 at all...
Service Plan Cost ($4.95/Month Plan): $59.4/year
One Time Activation/Setup Charge: $19.95
TOTAL: $79.35

NOTE: Please check the plan you are paying for. All hosting service fees are collected annually. However, this is NOT an annual contract. If you ever wish to terminate your service, we'll refund the remaining months of hosting fees back to you guaranteed!
Now, the activation fee I could take, but being forced to pay 1 year in advance, and calling it a "NOT an annual contract" doesn't seem like a MONTHLY offer they list. So it didn't seem like a viable choice for me. Sorry, but "pay now, ask questions later" formula isn't going to fly in my wallet. All I can say, from my minimal experience, is beware what you sign up for.

Best,

 I hate those $4.95/mo deals but it's only $4.95/mo when you sign up for 1-3 years . Bait and switch anyone :D?
