Getting pulled over by the Police

Aaargh. Happened to me today. I was late. I was speeding down to pick my daughter up at school. And it happened. That awful experience of the cop jumping out of his car, waving you over to stop because you were speeding. :(

So here I was. Already late. And now I had to deal with the time required to be written up for a speeding ticket. So I kicked into "creative" mode.

When the officer came to the window, I told him that my daughter's school was hit by an Internet virus, and I had to get there asap to fight off the damage. I explained that every minute that went by meant that more and more files on their hard drives would be eaten up by the virus.

He gave me a glazed look............................and (believe it or not) sent me on my way!!

(Gotta write that one down for future use...)

I think it had to do with how I looked at him square in the eyes. You need to make strong eye contact to build credibility. And if you talk over his head, he's more likely to cut you slack.

Phew.

Vito you're way too lucky. I haven't really been pulled over for speeding before, however I have recieved one or two tickets in my time.. :)

Bah - Try blowin' past an off duty cop at 115MPH. Apperently it pisses them off - especially when they're off duty, don't have a speed gun to get an accurate speed, and when they can't catch ya. It's really funny to have them pull up along side you when you're stopped at an intersection waiting for traffic, wave a badge, tell you to pull over, then call an on duty cop to issue a ticket.

Turns out that if you debate it in court, they don't show up because they know they can't prove anything and you get out of the ticket - just costs you more time.

Also Commercial Enforcement vehicles can pull you over - they don't like it when you pass them.

Grade A for creativity at the push of a button (so to speak)! :agree: Luck did play a part in the way things ended up though.

Agreed. I would venture to say that my approach would only work 30% of the time. I just got lucky.

What surprises me is that he let me go and it was near the end of the month. It's common knowledge that cops have a "quota" to fill every month (although precious few of them will admit that). He must've had his quota already covered. ;)

Yeah not a big fan of the police. I think they try to abuse their power sometimes. The guy that pulled me overe about 2 weeks ago pulled me over for speeding. I took my seat belt off to get my insurance cards out of my glove compartment and he wrote me a warning for not wearing a seat belt as well as a ticket for speeding. He was a jerk about it. Sometimes I wonder where they get these guys.

 Ahh, done that before too. I was actually speeding to the police department, because I was going to report an issue to them and they were going off office hours soon. I"m so unlucky!

Lucky you, Vito. I never get away like that, and I always get tickets for silly stuff. Just a couple of weeks ago I got a $200 ticket for forgetting the student card while using the metro (I really do have it). Last year I got a ticket for not wearing a helmet while I was riding my bicycle (I always wear it, but didn't for those 5 minutes because I was seeking medical attention to the person who hurt himself in the park)...

Cops don't care as far as I know. They have "ticket quotas" they need to fulfill, so they need scapegoats all the time.

Dragonlordgod,
Why not try calling them instead next time? :)

Was bringing in the proof an evidence..police told me actually to rush because it was going to be off office hours. Never doing this again! :thumbdown

Thanks for the idea vito, but well, I just need my girlfriend to get out of those situations :D Hehe, just kidding. Anyways, definitely gotta write that one down!

That was a very good one Vito :)
I got 2 tickets this month :crap:
I managed to get out of both of them, although I do agree cops do abuse their powers sometimes and I have seen it happen especially with me

vito, out of pure curiosity: how fast have you been ? i know that in europe penalties vary quite a lot so im curious about the US.

Do you mean how fast was I going that day? I'm not really sure, but probably a good 20 KPH over the speed limit.

yah. hrm.. well here in germany it would be like 150 Euro, but i know in other countries like italy its around the 300 euro mark.

Nice way to get out of it vito. I wish that worked around here... I just had to pay $220 for two tickets ($110 each). One was a ticket for 4 MPH over, the other was an 'improper turn'.
