Free web hosts that offer FREE domain names?

Believe it or not, but there are actually a few free web hosts out there that will even include a free domain name with your package.

Granted, they do have some limitations on being accepted, such as how some of the hosts say that you will need to log into your web site at least once every week or month, and possibly some other things.

Also some of them will only offer a less desirable domain name such as .info, but it still is pretty nice!

Anyone else heard about these?

No-do you have examples of sites like that? The only ones that I know of are sub-domains of the main site domain, and that has never been particularly desirable to me.

The only free web hosts that I have ever seen are the ones that offer free hosting with a subdomain like AbbieRose said. So, no I have never heard of this, which type of sites offer this?

I can't say I've ever seen any free hosts that offer a free domain thats not a sub directory myself. granted I've been looking more at hosting thats not free, but perhaps if I can find one to tie up a .info for free I will look harder. ;)

.info domains can be quite cheap. A free host may place a bet that on average they'll be making at least $2 per user, and thus make a profit at the end of the year. There's competition even in the realm of free hosting, and this may very well be seen as a small added cost to acquire a user.

Can you give us examples of such hosts? I'm rather curious myself.

Agreed. It's a gamble for the host even at $2 per year. If they require ads on the site it's going to take traffic to produce. No one's in business to loose money.

Just go look for Microsoft Office Live.
But you don't have advanced features under their hosting, just plain WYSIWYG editor. ;)

Here is one of the hosts http://www.agilityhoster.com/

Granted, they do offer paid plans as well, but their free plan includes a free domain of your choosing as well.

I read some reviews on this host, and they are supposed to be quite good, but I have yet to try them myself.

There are a number of other hosts like this, but I will have to find them again.

Never heard about the Microsoft thing.

ldcdc thanks for saving me the leg work-I really find it hard to believe that this could be true! I believe on the whole that the costs are too high for registering a domain name for a company to give you both the hosting and the domain for free. With a start up domain, as has been said there won't be the traffic to get the advertisers in, to cover these expenses. It's just not going to happen.

Maybe its possible these places are pawning off "free domain" as really "free sub domain"? Those are the only types I have seen with something similar to this.

I've never heard of it either, strange idea. We do a little free hosting on the side (backlinks, reviews, etc), but offering a domain has never been a selling point, all our free customers seem to want to use their own domains (sometimes free ones such as co.cc, uni.cc, co.nr).

Most of those free domains such as co.cc and co.nr can be obtained without signing up for any sort of web hosting package, so it's generally not a huge problem to find some sort of decent domain name, but I still am on the lookout for free hosts that offer a .biz or .info, since i'm pretty sure they are out there still.

It's a bit disappointing that it wasn't exactly what you thought it was, but I had never heard of a free host giving out a free domain that was not a subdomain, so I wasn't too excited about it. I wonder if there are any out there? I somehow doubt it, but it would be interesting to find one.

I am still looking, so do not give up hope yet!

In the mean-time, be sure to look into a domain with co.nr, co.cc, cjb.net, and others. They aren't quite getting your own domain at .com, but they are close enough that it will still look more professional than HostingDiscussion.blahblahblah.com or something like that.

Anyway, I am still looking for stuff...so don't give up!

I think that you will find all what you are looking for. I have to say that this is time related question. I would recommend you source like FWS for free related offers.
