Fraud, need other hosts opinions

I find its best to manually review new orders after they're placed.

So far, it sounds a little fishy. Does the WhoIS information for his domain he is wanting to host with you, and the information on his account match up?

Have you tried calling him/her yet?

Does his IP match his location?

Dont lose time on this. $60 is not worth it if you spend even just a day trying to figure out Dont risk anything

I agree. Try to call the client or send him an email and if don't respond back to you just simply cancel his order. If he is a serious client he will do everything that he needs to do just to pay you and prove you that he is a legitimate customer.

Actually, phone calls are a good thing even if it is fraud. Sometimes you wind up alerting the real card holder that their identity has been stolen.

This is a great point, they will also be grateful that you alerted them so they can rectify the issue as soon as possible. I agree with the others, give the client a call, be friendly and introduce yourself. Explain the issue, and confirm all is good, and continue on with the order!

Hello,

I received an order yesterday. The person tried to pay via Google Checkout, Google canceled the order saying the believe it's fraud..

This person then changed their payment method to Offline Check.

Now my question is, Would you try to deposit that check and see if it clears or rip it up?

I've never had something like this happen before. The total is $60.

Thanks for any advice,
Jerry

Hahaha, this just made my day :D

Just call the chap/gal and introduce yourself as the CEO of the company, they'll be surprised and probably stick with you, the power of the phone is incredible

Completely agree. I've had a couple times when I've done this and the person who's card I have has no idea what hosting is. Saves me time and energy and gives them a heads up before more trouble comes their way.

Yes, phone call is one great way to verify the fraud. Call them and talk in detail about the project they want to start. But as your gateway has marked this transaction as a fraud, so your first priority should be declining.

We've had this problem before. All you need to do is check all the account details for any irregularities, then have the accounts in question send over photo ID and signed CCA forms. Then if you have any other problems in future you can just bill the card on the CCA form.
