I think he ran 2ip.com up until recently? Not that it can be seen as a success story.

I forgot to mention 2ip.com in my post above. I wouldn't go there though as it just forwards to HostGator through affiliate link...

Good questions, Artashes. I think the biggest endorsement of this book comes from HostGator, which offers it free with all new reseller accounts. Here's my take on why you should spend the money.

Quite a few new web hosting entrepreneurs lack competency in some facet of business - as evidenced by their high failure rate. When the going rate for an online ad in a major metropolitan area exceeds $300, spending $20, $30 or $60 on a related industry recommended book is a value-add investment in yourself.

I can't recommend this book because I've never read it, but HostLeet has bought it and recommended it, as well as the CEO of WHMCS. I intend to purchase it, if for no other reason than curiousity. :)

I just ran across this on Amazon as well

Jimmy was the former owner of hostdepartment.com. I've had the pleasure of working with him in the past, and he's by far as legitimate a businessman as he is an entrepreneur. Host Department reached its height of success in 2005-2006 with Jimmy's leadership and it was a company with more than 40 employees. As an author of this book, Jimmy (if he is) is a reliable author with applicable experiences and technical skills. Buy the book and you'll see why.

Now THAT is what I've been looking for! HostDepartment indeed was a large company and if he was the one behind the steering wheel, then well deserved of course. My only wonder is why not just tell that to people to sell more books?? They have made this info uneasy to access...

I can see where you're coming from Artashes. But, in all honesty, not many (if any) of the people buying this book will know what HostDepartment.com is, or how successful of a company it was.

So, I think saying:

"The author has over 12 years experience in starting, growing, managing, and selling his own web hosting businesses. He started his first web hosting company at the age of 21 and has successfully grown the business into a multimillion dollar web hosting company."

Will sell more books than just saying he was the former owner of HostDeparment.com, which I never heard of until I read the book. ;)
