Flash Intros

I think this should be in the design forum since it is related to site design ;)

I have noticed that a lot less sites are using flash intros now; I think people were paying a lot for a custom flash intro for their site, but most people weren't interested in viewing them making them worthless and just added an extra page to the site.

I know some sites also didn't even offer the option to skip an intro, which is very annoying. I just leave a site which makes me wait for a flash intro to load, I have a fast connection but I'm impatient and don't want to wait for the intro to load, which can take a while even on a fast connection so it must be really bad on 56k.

I suppose another question that could be asked is if flash is a good or bad thing in the design of a site.

I personally am starting to dislike flash more and more.
I don't find anything wrong with it, if it’s used professionally and in a way that adds to the site and design but this isn't the case for most
 
I find flash in general is a detriment to my clients. Not everyone is web or computer savvy. When programming a site, I ponder whether or not my mom could navigate through it. If my mom were a potential client and she were prompted to download the latest version of flash player just so she could read my site I think she would run away. Click out and never come back.

Flash has its place. Strongbad would suck without it.

I really should build some flash for my site so people can see that I'm capable of it. But really, right now, I have no interest in it.
 
It's important to know when to use flash. You should always consider having an html site along with a flash site for people who don't want to download flash or have dialup and don't want to wait. It also depends on they type of site. Elements of flash work better on some sites than others.
