That happens with most of DV ssl certificates no matter its Sectigo or anything else. All you have to do is upload an HTML file or a DNS and its validation is completed that's why OV SSLs are better than DV SSLs.
scammer and fraudsters will never pay for an SSL,. this was one way to spot a fake site from a genuine site as they never had the padlock.
but now with LetsEncrypt and cPanel Autossl, they can get a free SSL to make their sites look genuine

Yes mostly they don't but few people do buy SSL for fake or scam sites as well

No SCAMMER ever spent money on SSL or any security for websites as they know in a few weeks they will either be taken down by host or scam enough they close down the website.
 
I think SSL's are a way of life now, but there is difference between the FREE Certs and PAID for certs, the free certs do not have insurance, while PAID Certs from reputable firms do have some level of insurance.
 
Does this warranty bring anything at all? Has there ever been a case where an issuer had to pay?
no validity with free certs as you get with a paid cert. If you running a business website that you have spent thousands on then why skimp on security and get a free SSL, when a paid cert can cost as little as $10

Not just banking information.

If you have a website that takes any sensitive information, Names, addresses, financial information, Dates of Birth etc. then you should have a SSL certificate and make sure any page taken that info runs under HTTPS.
