Do you use google adwords for your hosting ?

adwords can be effective but don't get stuck in the generic term game, you'll be broke trying to land a $10 account.

We have used adwords in the past and still using it. But the only difference is earlier we had all the keywords we could think of and we displaying ads in almost every country. Now, scenario has changed. It has become very expensive, almost 1 click to one dollars and sometimes more on certain keywords. So we have narrowed down on a few keywords only and limited to certain states and territories. It is an expensive affair altogether.

I have never used it but I know that AdWords ads are displayed along with search results on Google, as well as on search and content sites in the growing Google Network, which includes websites like AOL, EarthLink, HowStuffWorks, & Blogger.

You may want to check out HostingCatalog.com as an AdWords alternative. The minimum bid there is only $.05 and they also have an ad network with bid prices around $1.00, which is a lot less than what you would spend in AdWords.

I completely forgot about this option! It is indeed true they offer ppc advertising placement. However, top positions cost up to $3-4/click.

I am curious to find out how HostingCatalog.com compares to Google AdWords in terms of traffic generation effectiveness. Say, you are a top bidder for "shared hosting" category, and you are ready to spend $3/click, how much traffic do you actually get out of it?

Actually one of the great features of Hosting Catalog is its Ad Network. The bids for ad network exposure through Hosting Catalog are around $1.00 at the moment and your listing on HC gets syndication to its hand picked, web hosting related partner sites.

Bids on the site itself in most categories average b/w $1 and $2 as well.

it's waste money. i wonder will other compeititive blantingly keep clicking on your adwords to expense away the credit you have inside.

Actually its waste money if you pay to google its like open tap wasting water, not even 0.001% revenue you will get from the Google adords advertisement, its merely like brand name creation check most of the top hosts never use this for business, they use only for branding

It's only a waste if you're not converting the sale :)

Google Ads DO work, if you do them right. You have to remember, buying a word like "hosting" woudl be very expensive, and if they're searching for "hosting" they're still in the LOOKING phase. You need to be more precise on what it is the user is wanting to buy, and go after BUYERS and not TRAFFIC.

If you convert, google is actually quite inexpensive compared to traditional marketing. You can target very detailed with Google and other similar programs.

Yes i do agree but what is the conversion ratio? Have any analysis ? Most of the amount you pay will be charged for so called Impresssions which are not conversions, in my view ( i had really spend for sometime) the conversion on hosting industry is tough, dudes search for big names while buying but browse any site coming in advertisment

We have tried Ad-words before without much success at all. We have decided it will be better to go the route of SEO and submit press releases as well as doing local advertising and blog posting to gain clients.

Instead of paying for Google who is already rich try some alternative methods of promotions, lot of techniques are available, i am seeing that blog posting is one such

Using paid advertisement will pay in the intial stages of the company and surely any company who want to have long term business should invest in this kind of advertisements
