Do you think this could work!?

This could work but make sure you make profit and like offer a good amount of Bandwidth and Disk Dont over sell your server or reseller from just selling 1$ plans with alot of disk and band.

$1.00 is a good marketing tool I think. Also, $1.00 hosting plans can make you a lot of $ as long as you make the packages worth the $1.00 and not overselling or underselling it.

I don't see offering $1 hosting as a bad thing. However, as the others said, will it be enough to cover operational costs?

If you're planning to offer a $1 plan, you should make it basic. For example, you can cut down on the features, such as Shell Access, the number of MySQL databases, domains, etc.

Space and bandwidth shouldn't be too large as well - space should be no larger than 1GB and bandwidth no larger than 15GB.

I agree 100% Bikster. Making the plan basic will showcase your other plans and make those seem more worth the money.

Its a good marketing idea... but aside from that.. after processing fees and labor your not going to see much of that $1. Hope its a real basic non feature rich plan.

yea toxicdav3 makes a good point. I don't see how you can make any profit from 1$ web hosting. Unless you use it as a coupon on another web hosting plan.

The whole point of the $1.00 plan is to showcase your other plans. You make your other plans seem more worth the money.

Also, it could be used as a coupon based marketing plan. That would draw in some customers as well.

I'm with Blue too, and another thing to keep in mind, if you charged $1, would that be monthly or yearly? If it's monthly, then at paypal for example, you'd be subject to a .35 transaction fee, which is just for processing it, not to mention the percentage fees. So, out of a $1, you may get .63, so you've already lost 37% of your "profit".

But like others said, $1 wouldn't cover expenses.

I would red flag this idea right away. But like others have said be carful and ensur eyou plan ahead and take all the steps you can to protect your core business

$1 plans would have to be a loss leader for additional services that provide some measureable profit.

Steve,

From my experience $1.00 hosting plans do not work well for loss leaders to then promote some other product. They tend to draw just pure cheap crowd. I had developed a $0.99/month promotion for a client for Virtual Prviate Servers at the thought that they would then upgrade to dedicates or need more resources. There was I think a total of two who did this out of the hundreds we received. Not a good idea. Now doing a cheap dedicated server as a loss leader to gain clients tneds to be a better idea. You have to be bold. :)

I absolutely agree with you. Loss leaders are a valid marketing strategy, but you absolutely need to measure their projected ROI. Cheap dedicated servers makes better business sense. :)
