Do you think that it is safe to pay annually?

Yeah, even the big places are a little too risky to go five or ten year. It locks in a great price but the economy is all over the place-one major earthquake in the wrong place and you're out a lot of money.

Monthy/Yearly

How do you prefer to pay? MONTHLY or YEARLY?

Like others have said....it just depends on the provider. For me personally I looked to see how long certain web hosting companies had been around. I settled on HostICan....very good support/uptime/and very affordable for the offers! Hope you have found a good one!

I don't know that I'd make any financial decisions based on earthquake probability. :) I think the market changes too rapidly to go beyond a 3 three year term on most services.

I am with Vivi, if it's a tried and true company that has been around for awhile, go ahead and pay the annual fee. If it's a new company try it out for one to three months then adjust from there.

Generally, If the host survived its first year, there should be no problems. Most of the hosts close their doors within first year of operation.

Sometimes it really IS better to pay yearly, as the price is often lower than paying per month, and it allows you to get the payment out of the way, while you(hopefully) still have the money ready to pay for it all at once. But again, you need to be sure you can trust the company in question to be around in a year.

I'd only pay yearly with a company that's been around for at least a year. But I usually only go monthly because its easier to manage, and I hate contracts.

yes normally it will save you alot paying annually with a discount

Indeed, but as I've seen from another web hosting oriented community, a client bought a year in advance and the host decided to sell out during his first month, him losing all of that money as they would not give him a full discount.

But it's really down to if you want to take the chance and pay for a year.

It goes without saying that any host that your going to give a 1 year advance payment to, you better be pretty darn sure that they will still be around a year from now. Even if the price is insanely good, you still want to pick a host that's worthy of your trust.

I don't worry too much about a one year contract but some of the more insane ones at five or ten years, well who would really do that? I don't see how anyone could have that much confidence.

Ouch, that's too long, I'm not sure I've seen any host give out contracts like that.

I actually have seen a few web hosts that offered huge contracts like that for crazy low prices, and unsurprisingly enough...they went out of business loooooooooooooooong before the contract would have reached it's end. Like anything in the world, if it sounds too good to be true...

Another problem I have seen with long term accounts is a client gets nailed with a TOS violation. So often the web hosting company will not refund the remaining balance after an account is suspended due to a TOS violation.
