Do i need a VPS?

Some of my clients sites get way more than 2k per day and they barely use any resources and don't pay much more than £4 per month. Having said that I hosted a very poorly coded VB forum that was using so much resources with just over 3k hits per day that I had to move the entire thing to its own VPS, the guy had about 20 addons installed and the coding was frankly appalling. Even on the VPS it sucks alot of CPU and I have recommended him to get a designer in to fix it up, I even said if he did he can probably move it back to shared hosting again as I know it should normally be using not even 1/10th resources it uses right now.

Anyway I'm rambling, but I meant to example that the bottom line is if your website is well coded you should be able to sit happily on anyones shared hosting with that little amount of hits.

VPS plans are cheaper than reseller hosting plans
As a general statement, I find that hard to believe. There are control panel licensing costs and VPS management costs that work against it.

Hi.

I want to host two blogs. Here are my requirements

1. 2 wordpress blogs
2. Expecting around 1000-1500 visitors a day (Extreme peak times considering i am just starting my blogs)
3. I wont provide any upload/ download/ videos
4. I may stream videos from you tube and related
5. I do not have any knowledge of root access or whatever vps companies talk about. I have experience installing wordpress on shared hosting sites only (Upload it to public_html folder)

So do i need a VPS or just a shared hosing?

here are my picks for

SHARED HOSTING
Bluehost/hostgator/inmotionhosting

Grid service
mediatemple

VPS
vpslink.com/cheapvps.co.uk/slicehost.com
(Most offer close to 256 Mb ram and 300 Gb bandwidth per month for my budget (20$ per month))

Any idea how much RAM i should look for?

Can you suggest?

Your requirement does not require a VPS at all. You can manage with a normal hosting only. There are many companies now offering unlimited bandwidth. You can just save a lot of money..
VPS is a very good idea for those who require root access only.

You mite think that I'd suggest a VPS being that's my business, but from my understanding of your needs you should be just fine with a shared account, plus you won't need to manage the server.

Learn what overselling is, if you're still ok with it then go for Bluehost/Hostmonster(same company). If you're dead set on a VPS, managed is a good way to go, but to cut costs you mite be able to find a provider that will at least help you get everything up and running even if they are "unmanaged". From there you could just use the shared cpanel account created on the VPS.

VPS plans are cheaper than reseller hosting plans, if you want to run your own sites and to manage it properly go for VPS, reseller service is not good with many also bit costly compared to a mid range VPS

That's not necessarily true. A VPS with cPanel runs at about $30.00/mo, whereas a reseller account usually runs at $19.00/mo (depending on what's included).
