Do customers search for hosting on forums?

I'm really curious if you've ever signed a customer who found through searching forums. Me personally I search google and go from there.

As a customer, I had experience with a total of about 5-6 companies in my life. All except for two was the result of me looking on forums. The two companies that serve as exception were the first two companies I've ever dealt with that I found through traditional search engine/hosting directory search, and it was the most miserable experience ever.

In my view, there is no better criteria (for me at least) to judge a company by than on personal interaction. Ever since I started paying attention to what the company is like in public, how it is being represented, how valuable it tries to be to others, that for me is the biggest selling point.

Of course! :)

I would say probably more than half of our clients found us through forums like HD and WHT.

Forums are a big asset (if done right). People will quickly notice a spamer type posting and move on to another host. We find a lot of people that do research on us through forums and google. There's a number of forums that I participate in that are blocked from google, and these carry a lot more weight to the users of those forums. When your sole purpose in the forum is to help others and not a "what in it for me" type posting, people value that a lot more when doing research.

You can take my example.. :D I was reading reviews about different hosting in forums, but I have seen some reviews in which it just look like marketing by there own employees because I saw one person saying it is 10/10 and everyone else was saying worst hosting company ever, be aware of marketing techniques.

Forums are an invaluable place to get your name out there as long as you stick to the forum rules, be helpful and stay professional.

If you sign up to spam without actually looking what's on the forums it'll just give the company you're advertising a bad name, and it is annoying for people that come here to find information.

I never use to search threw forums for hosting intill I found out that peomple use to use forums to shared there thoughs and information on forums. So I do think people now and days do search forums for hosting.

I use to just know about one company that offers hosting witch was hostgator, intill I forund out about a old company that I first ever worked for and had hosting from, from there on I have been stuck on web hosting its my hobby and I love it.

Forum is a good place to search hosting, because you can come across representatives of some companies, you can consult related information from them.

A good way to know where your clients came from, is to ask them during the checkout process how they found your services and then provide them with options like Google Search, HostingDiscussion, Yahoo Search, ect.., so they can choose one. This has worked great for me. Also, offering promotional codes exclusive to certain forums will also let you know where the client came from. ;)

We have an optional "How did you find us?" text field on our order form (we make clear it's optional; obviously we don't mind if people don't want to give this info), and there are a fair amount of people finding us via forums.

Google is also (naturally!) one of the most common sources that our customers find us, along with word of mouth.

Forum is really important for review what you want. If you search on search engine, which’s the best optimization on there, they are will be appear on page search engine. So you can’t review many of them. Different with Forums, many of services or products what we need will be suggested by member at the forums, so we can review them, can choose what we want, a lot of choice on forums. I think forums are the best way to found everything what we need.

Many potential customers view forums. They may be looking for promotional codes or special offers, but most likely are looking for recommendations from other forum dwellers. Positive reviews are nearly as good as word of mouth advertisement in the hosting industry. If you see a host with many positive reviews, it is likely they actually provide what they say they do. While it is possible to cheat the system, if you see a number of members that have been members for years and have posted many times giving a company positive reviews, it is likely true. If you see several accounts that joined this week and have one or two posts giving the same company positive reviews... well, it may not hold as much truth.

Yes. Some customers don't trust the promises that web hosts put on their websites so they search for what others have to say about those companies. A lot of people look in forums for suggestions or even to find out about other web hosts that are just not in the top pages of google.

yes, i agree with you...because some people believe that many people who recommend their hosting is such a good point about the service, price, packages ... So they want to also use the hosting service.

Thanks ....
