Data Center Infrastructure Questions for Colocation

Are cross connects available? What carriers are available? What uplink speeds are offered? What kind of redundancy do they offer? What’s their procedure to control airflow? What kind of alarms are available? How are they monitored? What kind of managed services are available?

Is your data center up-to-date?
Against what benchmarks do you measure one data center versus another? Surely, the cost of power speaks directly to the efficiency of the data center itself.

Does your provider manage multiple data centers? If so, are they tied together via fiber optics or otherwise? Do they have failover? What is the history of their uptime? Are they growing?

The real question should be, “How important is your business to you?”
 
These are common questions I see about whether to colocate in a data center - or to compare one versus another. Getting answers to these questions should help making an informed business decision. :D
 
The first two - "Are cross connects available?" and "What carriers are available?" are probably the most important ones and a good data center should say "Yes" on the first one and to have a list of at least ... 15 good carriers.

I really liked how you phrased all that. Luckily I made all those precautions beforehand. Also maybe if they have an offsite DC incase its a REALLY serious issue. Mines got a special DC just for backups of the other customer which is really nice. Hopefully it will never go to use :P

There is no point using a data-center if you are forced to use a small selection of ISP's
