It's the end of an era, to be honest, but as announced here , Way to the Web LLC is going to be shutting down. All paid and unpaid services will end. CSF will cease to be distributed .

What are your plans going forward, as a host?

That’s a shame, if they wanted to, they could charge a monthly fee and people would pay for it, their software was always solid and I personally loved CSF.

It is a real shame, we are about to deploy some new cPanel servers too. It does sound like CSF / lfd may be released under Github.

That being said, we really use the MailScanner Front-End system. Anyone already looking at alternatives there?

Honestly, I have to look at this as a good thing. The industry grows, and as it does, you can either grow with it, or get left behind.

When I first heard about this, I was kind of frustrated. I mean, I have 10+ servers and have been relying on CSF/LFD to do things. I never really considered anything else.... Then, I started to investigate and look at the productivity and releases. Lately those have been kind of lacking

The past week or so, I've dedicated resources to moving servers from DC a to DC b. What better time to play with new stuff... UFW is such a better frontend here, honestly.

An end to an Era.

I remember managing servers before CSF/LFD and when they came on the scene, there was no looking back. They were the gold standard both from a configuration end of things and a security standpoint. Their firewall and their mail scanner tools were critical to our operation when we had hundreds of servers and VPS machines to manage.

Not being in the server business anymore, I've no idea what the alternatives have been in the past 10 years, but I know I relied heavily on ConfigServer way back in the day!

I suspect that if they do push it to GitHub, someone will take it on and start maintaining it. It's been in use for so long by so many I don't really think that it's going to "die".

It's already 'dead'. Seriously, dead in the water.

Look at the update history. Look at how dated iptables is. Look at how long it took them just to get a working 'hack' for nftables in (which will pass in it's own right).

CSF and LFD had a long life. A good life. There's really no way forward, as it is. If someone wants to take that on as a free project (nobody is going to pay for it), then they have an uphill battle to fight, trying to get that properly updated and working.
