Your topic %TITLE% was interesting when I found it on %DAY% searching for %KEYWORD%. Thanks, %URL%…

After reading this post, I am not sure I understand what you are trying to relate. Please expand on your thoughts a little more. Thanks…

I can’t believe that I missed your point, I will have to do some research on this….

I never thought I will agree with this opinion, but you know… I agree partially now…

Do you recognize any of the comments above?

They’re typical BLOG SPAM comments, usually accompanied by a link to some obscure website promoting dating services, gaming, pills, e.g.

Are you running a blog for your business? Are comments turned on and moderated? If you’re not monitoring/approving every comment submitted, you may be unpleasantly surprised the next time you review your blog. It seems as though I delete at least one version of these every day.

From Wikipedia

Spam in blogs (also called blog spam or comment spam) is a form of spamdexing. It is done by automatically posting random comments or promoting commercial services to blogs, wikis, guest books, or other publicly accessible online discussion boards. Any web application that accepts and displays hyperlinks submitted by visitors may be a target.

Adding links that point to the spammer’s web site artificially increases the site’s search engine ranking. An increased ranking often results in the spammer’s commercial site being listed ahead of other sites for certain searches, increasing the number of potential visitors and paying customers.

PS: Not two minutes after I posted this on my blog, I received, “I never thought I will agree with this opinion, but you know… I agree partially now….”

Steve:

We ran a commercial blog for about a year. We had atleast 10 a day. It is really ridiclious. The worste part is that companies pay for the blog comments. I guess for those gambling sites reputation doesn't matter.

Yep, seen them before. There's obviously a lot more than those listed, usually it's easy to weed out the spam since most of them don't make any sense.

Wouldn't standard anti-spam measures like CAPTCHA's, moderating comments with links, etc fix the problem to quite a large extent ?
The Wikipedia article on Spam in blogs you quoted from has a number of possible solutions.
Much as we'd like to, we can't really make spam go away, but we do have tools to reduce it to manageable levels.

Now that you mention this, my mind starting spinning. Maybe I can automate some of the stuff I've been doing manually in deleting this spam. After all, the phraseology doesn't change that much between them.

"doesn't change much is an understatement" - seems like I get the same comment over and over for days sometimes.

<3 human spammers.

Seriously thought I love askimet, it does not hit them all but it does really help to weed out a good chunk of the bad. This happens for our blog sites for business and even my personal one. You would be surprised the things that people try and relate to the personal sites. :D

This may also tempt you to approve comments from such respected commenter as “Buy diet pills”, "Buy Viagra" lol :)
# Very good site! I like it! Thanks!
# Cool site!
# You have very good domain name.
