beware of this SCAM semi-dedicated servers $1

Free or too cheap services are always suspicious, but the word "Free" seems too tempting :)

the four letter word "free" attracts everyone, in all businesses

I sell toys at country shows etc. I remember when i was selling fishing nets at 50p each and these were not selling, so i then prices these at £1 buy 1 get 1 free and guess what these all sold in a matter of weeks, so i got my 50p each for them, and consumers thought they were getting 1 free. its all retail phycology which all major retailers use.

So you were running a scam then.
You were not offering a free product you just doubled the price of a current product.
What makes you any different than the company you felt necessary to post here calling them a scam?

no what i was doing was not a scam and not ILLEGAL. you will find 99.9% of retailers adopt the same process when items are slow to sell. you are actually getting the same retail price per item. before i did this i checked with local trading standards to see if it was an illegal act.

the site i say is a scam is clearly taking money but not providing a method to order a service/product, so more people will be happy to part with 0.99$ and as Liberty reserver do not offer any refund or chargeback schemes that you have lost your 0.99$ which you can say well its only 0.99$, but if they get 100 people fall for this then thats $99 they have made.

Is what they are doing illegal?
Did you sign up for an account since I last asked and determine they were not living up to their end of the bargain?

not in the eyes of the UK Law as all you have done is increased the retail price (not illegal) and then also offered a buy 1 get 1 free offer (not illegal). retailers around the world do this daily.

how they dont have an option for you to sign up for an account only an option to give 0.99$ to Liberty Reserve

So you agree they are not breaking the law.
You confirm that you have never tried their service or even attempted to set up an account.
And yet you feel it is somehow beneficial for you to start threads on public forums defaming a competing company with no evidence of any scam or wrongdoing.

so how can you try a service that you cannot actually sign up to.

yes they are breaking the law by taking money and not providing a service.

if you are a host if someone signs up to your services do they not need to complete an order form with the name, address etc. and then they are directed to your payment gateway to make a payment.

all what happens with this host is that when you click order you are taken direct to liberty reserve to pay the 0.99$ you are not asked for any details.

maybe the title should be "beware of this possible SCAM semi-dedicated servers $1

No, the title of the thread should have not even been an issue. The thread should never have been started. It is libel.

From their website:
"Merchant's memo EU VPS - please insert your E-MAIL adress and OS that you choose in "Additional Memo"

That would lead me to believe they don't have an automated system. One should expect that when the prices are low. Presumably they contact the client after payment is received to set up the account.

But you wouldn't know would you? You didn't even make an attempt.
Instead you started a thread with no basis in fact to discredit a competitor that you have no experience with.

I started this thread when i saw this on WHT.

who would order from a host that only uses a payment gateway that had no chargeback or refund system as their is no way of getting your money back at 0.99$ for a semi dedicated it crys scam as this is their to attract more people to pay and you would not be bothered to lose 0.99$ but as i stated if 100 people sign up they have taken $99. also dont forget the merchant fees, so they are not even getting the full 0.99$. its impossible to provide

Your point is?
Whoever posted that on WHT clearly didn't sign up for an account with them either so just as unethical to post there.
Why did you feel the need to bring it to this forum without any verification at all?

i did try and sign up to test it out,

first you need to register with liberty reserve as you need your LR login details to make the payment.

"Merchant's memo EU VPS - please insert your E-MAIL adress and OS that you choose in "Additional Memo"

this does not work as all i kept getting was an error "Error: you need to place a space between each word" tried this several times with a space between my email and OS (failed) so i spaced between every single word (me @ mydomain . co . uk windows 2003) and this also failed

so again you cant try something if you cant sign up

If you were unable to sign up you haven't shown it to be a scam now have you?
In order for it to be a scam would they not have to take your money and not deliver on the service?

It can also be a scam even if money is not taken.

they advertise at 0.99$ so you go through their order process through Liberty Reserve, giving your name/address etc. and they at the find step this fails, but it could be set up to harvest your personal details so the 0.99$ is just to attract as many people as possible.

scams are in many forms.

Sure. Well in that case your post should have been titled "beware of this SCAM Liberty Reserve Harvesting your Information" seeing as the sign up form directs you to the Liberty Reserve website so no information is actually really collected by the site you are accusing.

Still does not justify your libel and unprofessional post.
I know you are just going to continue to justify your actions and admit no wrong doing or even that you made a mistake here.
That's fine. Your choice really as to how you want to represent yourself and your company on public forums, Your posting history suggests that you are more interested in trying to degrade and offend other companies than in promoting your own product.

Good luck with that.
