Best webmail app?

I like squirrelmail too. But ever since I got acquainted with Gmail, I now forward all emails to my Gmail account. The webmail apps in cpanel are no match to the usability of Gmail. I'm able to do this without my friends knowing that I use Gmail. They still see the email address that bears my domain name.

That's a good idea, debayo. Squirrelmail and Roundcube are ok, but I absolutely love Gmail. I think I may start forwarding my emails as well.

I'm a bit curious as to why you both prefer Gmail over Squirrelmail and Roundcube. I know that Gmail is popular as a normal mail program, but what functions does it offer that other lesser-known webmail applications don't have? I ask only because I use my yahoo email as the basis for communication on my website and haven't had any issues that require me to change webmails.

Hi Vivelee! I have a Yahoo account too. But my problem with Yahoo is that it charges us something to avail of their POP./IMAP email access and message forwarding services.

With Gmail, I can redirect all messages sent to myname@mydomain.com to myname@gmail.com for no extra fee. Then, after reading the email, I can reply to it and the recipient would see that it came from myname@mydomain.com and not Gmail.

You follow so far? That functionality has allowed me to use all the functionality of Gmail without abandoning my online identity.

I use squirrelmail. GUI is not the best , serves the purpose neatly. and that is more than a reason to stick with it.

I used Horde in the past but have became fond of Roundcube, so now I use it. It has a nice clean interface without a bunch of other stuff that I never use anyways.

We have Horde, Squirrelmail and RoundCube installed on our server. Which one I use depends on what I'm wanting to do. If I'm getting into a main account that has "sub accounts", then I will usually use Horde, because it allows me to see all of them. If I'm just using an individual account, I tend to use Squirrelmail.

Now that we're in this topic, how would you compare Horde, Squirrelmail and Roundcube? I see them in the cpanel interface, but I barely used any of them. A little education on the comparison would be greatly appreciated :)

Roundcube is clean. Horde Mail is professional.

Honestly, why don't use Google gMail with cPanel? It is the best.

I use Horde, have been very happy with it. You can customize it also since there are two files that you can write html to. It also allows the client to download their email from other servers which is handy since I'm juggling email accounts on 9 domains and I can retrieve them all in horde.

Roundcube will be the choice, as of now. Correct me if I am wrong, but AtMail has webmail script, right? If so, I would go for it. Although the free account has a 5-user limit.

Roundcube webmail is a modern, ajax-driven webmail solution which is easy to install/configure and that runs on a standard LAMPP configuration. The skins use the latest web standards such as XHTML and CSS 2. The project includes open-source classes/libraries from PEAR and the IMAP library from IlohaMail.org.

I've been using Tuxedo - webmail based off of Roundcube. I love it. And for 80$ a year, you can't go wrong. I have had alot of customer complaints with roundcube by itselft, and in the end, the 80$ a year made everything better and all problems go away. http://www.tuxedowebmail.com/

I just went and tried the Tuxedo Mail demo, and it is an identical copy of RoundCube.

I guess with a "more elegant" dress but it is all the same "under the hood"

I would not pay $80/year for that.

I stay with RoundCube.

Regards,
