Bad Reseller?

They cancelled your hosting with 2-3 users online?

Wow I have never heard of a host doing that....that would use next to no resources...almost every site would have that...

That is rough. 2 - 3 users is nothing really. Forums can run on a shared server with out problems with a lot more users then that!

could NOT be true

I have 6 customers that will testify that they experienced hours of server outage and downtime while being with hostgator.com. They moved over to us and told us the stories. One guy said his sites were down for 6-8 hours at a time, like sometimes 5 times a month :(

I heard they just have way to many hosting accounts per server.

Making the money but not putting it back into their servers.

I dont really see how that could be true, being that they rent there space from one of the largest data center in the U.S. I have a reseller account with HostGator and have not had any problems. If I do I'l be sure to let you know. The data center they use to as servers for all there account is in Texas. address is www.theplanet.com

I don't think it matters where the datacentre is or who the datacentre are - if a host has bad management they can still have masses of downtime.

(I don't know anything about HostGator, by the way :) - Do let us know if you have any problems, though.)

I agree with you Will on that.

There are a few things that can cause problems for a host. The first is a bad network (been there). Network downtime sucks and is a responsibility of the DC to keep things going well. For the past 3 - 4 years this has not been an issue for us at ThePlanet or Equinix which makes things good! Although TP has had 2 - 3 network issues but not 2 - 3 a day which I have seen at other datacentres.

Then there is server management... regardless of how good a datacentre is a server can still go down if not managed correctly or for another reason. Overloaded servers, DDOS attacks etc... all need to be combated.

So.. if the DC has a great network then the host who has it's servers there can still do things wrong and cause downtime.

Hopping back to the reseller discussion, I had a reseller account until recently when I moved to a VPS. I acutally liked the fact that someone else was running the servers for me. Gave me peace of mind. However, I did know a member of staff very well and so I knew I was in safe hands and wouldn't be left in the dark.

Reseller accounts are great but once or twice having root access to a server would have made things easier.

James,

Just because you do not have a problem with a certain hosting company, does not mean that others are not being truthful when they say they are having a problem. People will have different expectations from their host, if your host reaches your expectations, then great.

It doesn't matter if it is the biggest datacenter on the planet, every DC will have their problems. You have to keep an open mind about these things.

Also my first impression, seeing as this is your first post here that you in someway represent hostgator in more than a client capacity. I look forward to being proved wrong.

Haha, I remember LeHost.net I wonder if that business is still around. The owner used to change names almost every 3-4 months.

5 years later.

We never changed the name of the company. We we're successfully in business untill 2007. We sold to RebelNetworks.

Now in 2008 we are going to come back with a better hosting solution.

till now happy with allReseller. actually I was looking for small space & cheap reseller with unlimited domain hosted...
