ARK survival evolved server hosting - To VPS or not

Hey,
i would like to give a try and get my first game server EVER.

Should i get a vps or use a shared host like game hosting providers (fragnet, gameservers...)?

I look forward for a VPS but i have no clue where to start.
What is ddos protection and why hosts with ddos protection come cheaper than hosts with out? (look host nr1 and nr2) http://nazeboo.com/server-hosting/ark-survival-evolved-server-hosting/

What would be the cost of a vps?

If i were you to start a game server then the best option is to have Dedicated server for best performance and other option is to use game hosting companies were they help you set up the game and if there is a problem they fix it. i hope you find the right option. good luck

yay, dedicated server will ruin my pocket
Ill wait a bit till i decide. Since another major issue will be to bring people in the server, and i can see so many empty servers that worries me.
