Are Clients Loyal to cPanel?

I guess it depends on how long ago your support department was testing on it. The windows version is very stable and used by many of our customers that have windows servers rather than linux. No major complaints that we've heard from them.

Thanks for the information. Since a long time I was looking for someones genuine review on Enkompass, and as of now I have got it from you; so now I am going to shake our guys belly; hope this time they can understand me :) I will try to include Enkompass in our Windows hosting plans soon...Thanks again...

My experience has been people get used to the cPanel interface and they get scared if they have to mange their site with out it. Bottom line is if your clients want it get it.

cPanel is the most easiest and known/common program to use for hosting so Im sure people wouldnt mind using it as a customer that knows about it though.

cPanel is simply the undisputed champion of control panels. :D

This is true for common needs. However, for multiple situations cPanel may not be the best.

To control an account, ok. But to control a server, you are lacking alot: reboots, hardware, software configuration, OS installs, etc

Also, cPanel is somehow bloated in its way, where you don't get to choose your modules.

To me webmin is way more customizable and less resource hungry since I get to choose which apps/deamons/servers I install.

cPanel may be the most popular choice, but certainly not the best for all situations.

Why do so many clients love cPanel? the answer comes simple, you get everything organised with ease and it comes with powerful tools such as site backups and a lot of them. And most important thing is the support you receive from the cPanel team, it's marvelous.

Clients in the web hosting industry are looking for a control panel that is:

1) Brand name (cPanel is a industry leader of web hosting)
2) Easy to navigate (Advanced, but can be navigated by a beginner)
3) Stable and in production still (updates, etc.)
4) Features and feature add-on friendly

Back to the topic:

Many clients just entering the web hosting industry are not aware of the control panels and etc. cPanel offers a easy to use infastructure and is very user friendly.

In a way, cPanel also keeps you binded, because if you are looking to transfer a website to another web host and you are currently using cPanel. You cannot transfer it to another control panel interface, unless doing so manually (databases, etc.) Therefore, other webhosts would choose cPanel as one of their control panels due to loss of revenue from transferring customers, if they do not.

People are intrinsically afraid of the unknown and thus will stick to the tried and tested.

cPanel is the most common and if people have used it before they will tend to stick to it.

It's created it's own hype and will continually feed from it. It does a great job in most situations and is easy enough to use.

I fell in love with DirectAdmin a few years ago, gave it a shot on a production server and unleashed it to the masses. 2 months later, no one was using it.

Beats me.

I'm guessing if customers havn't heard of it, they'll stay away.

Just the way it works. The only I can see it changing if all the big hosting players start using a different control panel, which I don't see happening for a while yet.

same here i got a cheap DA hosting account just so i could learn DA as i have been offering hosting for 11 yrs and thought if i offered DA i would get another set of clients, i found it easy to use, so i started looking at VPS servers that i coukd offer DA. i found one VPS for $30 semi annual with free DA, so i took 1 as this would judge the market and if their was interest i would upgrade to a better server but $30 for 6 months seemed OK as a test production server. in the 6 months after major pushing of this i managed to get 1 client on the server who was a builder with a single page site with his details and services offered. so after the 6 months i decided to not renew the server and just moved the client to my main cpanel server.

It's a vicious circle. Every host offers it so clients will automatically look for it and if you're not offering it, it's a no no.

I'd really love to see usage figures though, in regards to the specific aspects of the control panel and which parts the clients use. I know that most of the customers I have will only use it when they're setting up their website (databases, email accounts) and then never really use it again.

May give DA another shot very soon, it was far cheaper to run and in terms of things going badly wrong like they can do with cPanel, never had that problem with DA.

this i agree, even the sites i have all i use in cpanel are

email accounts, databases, SSL manager, cron and softaculous

cPanel is used so much in the hosting industry now that most people will only know cPanel and no other alternatives. So the customer gets used to using cPanel and once they have learnt how to use it unless cPanel severly affects the customer they dont see any other reason to use another control panel.

the problem you have is alot of hosting scenarios can be adapted to use Cpanel. there are also alot of plugins/addons available for Cpanel.

Also the addition of their dnsonly Cpanel addon makes it incredibly easy to setup and configure a dns cluster

Customers love cPanel because it is what they know. There are better systems out nowadays however in the end it is all up to the customer as they pay your bills!

Clients preferre cPanel because it's a friendly GUI interface allowing them to make changes quickly in a short period of time. It's been around the hosting community for years and definitely known all around.

Thanks,
