All those Top 10 Hosting Sites

It is hard to attract customers, but you have to do something that makes you stand out above the crowd. Anyone with truck loads of marketing money can easily get into the top 10 of almost any web host review site, but those sites can be very deceiving.

Word of mouth is probably one of our best sources of traffic. Recently we have been pushing more of the web hosting forums and just trying to interact with possible clients. We believe that if you provide outstanding customer service, the clients are going to remember that the most and are going to be telling everyone they can about it.

One of the things we do is if a client comes to us for services and we believe that their needs wouldn't be met by our available resources, we refer them to companies that we believe would be better suited for their needs. Does this mean lost sales? Sure it does, who wouldn't want to land a big client, however, that client is more likely to remember that Oh hey, they were really helpful, I should look to them for my next project.

It's all about karma.

Good luck in your search for a provider. Remember, a diamond in the rough is never an easy find.

Regards.

Indeed word of mouth is your best ally. That and being active on many of the top webhosting forums. Get your name out. The more people see your name the most they can find out about you and it shows how dedicated your team is. Customer service alone will get you sales and the rest is history. Offer some great reseller incentives as well. Resellers are the best way to get sales. Keep them happy and you will be ok.

I got my first customer from and ad in the webhostingtalk forums. The customer is still with me almost 7 months later.

Webhostingtalk is where the majority of my clients have come from and a few from word of mouth.

It's nothing to do with "popularity", it's all down to the affiliate commissions

Yep. That's what it's all about. The ones that pay the highest affiliate payout are at the top.

I never trust those websites. If I want reviews I look on forums.

Does not surprise me. The host I have now was on webhosting talk. Heck webhosting talk is how I found this site.
This site was mentioned in a thread about hosting review sites.

That's how I came across this forum too. Signed up back in September but never received the activation email. Then forgot about the site for awhile until I received an email today stating my account was activated. (Thanks Mods/Admins)

So I decided to come back. Glad I did as this is a great forum.

I wish those review sites gave everyone a fair shot, no matter how much you pay them!

Everything is about money :) - Only a few review sites provide quality and truthful reviews which are not based on money. Though you must consider it from a persons point of view, if you can make $100 per sale why settle for $25 per sale or 25% of a sale when you will get the same traffic / good conversion rates etc...?

Though really +1 to those legit sites, I honestly only know 1!

For us SEO gives a great lift with regards to traffic generation and added to us is our affiliate Marketing. It is very effective for us. :)

If I were you I wouldn't be envious of those hosts on those lists. Hosts like BlueHost, FatCow, HostGator, InMotion Hosting, GoDaddy, etc. do part of our job for us, which is educate web hosting newbies that

1) You get horrendous support @ EIG-owned companies
2) Unlimited Hosting just doesn't work out 99% of the time
and 3) Hosting is not a magical box

By the time they're educated, that's when they come to us.

You need to remember 1 thing, if you ever search for example, "top ten hosting sites" and if you find a website with them do note that each website listed there paid a certain amount to be on that list. The highest bidder is quote "The best host". If seen new companies , not even 2 months old on these list. Our company works different thou, if this interests you. Each new customer we receive we ring them up and welcome them.

It's a real shame that these companies are not independent, they are somehow influenced by money, through paid listings and affiliate linking.

I think the best thing to do it do full research yourself. I find that review sites do it quite well.
