#1 quality of a good host?

Uptime is the most important simply because that is the reason why we have websites in the first place, because we want them to be available on the web.

Has to be reliable. I tend to FIND that reliability tends to be one of the most used and taken in words in the industry, Whether the webhost offers 24x7 Support, Reliability always comes into the factor.

How will you know they are reliable unless you try them is the other question :)

24/7 prompt and quality support us what I would opt for first if I had to choose a web hosting service provider.

What is the #1 thing you want a host to have? It can only be one. :P

-Reliable (99.9%+ Uptime)
-24/7 Support
-Cheap Prices
-Many good reviews
-Age (Been around for 1+ years)
-Other

Hello cubichost,

The vote is for 'Reliability'.
Reliability means, 'The quality of being dependable or reliable'.
It is the single word for being having all the characteristics. So no question on the No.1 quality, it is the quality of having all the qualities. It includes '24/7 support, affordable prices(not cheap), good reviews, Age and other factors'.

I would definitely have to go with reliability. 99.9%+ uptime is the desired trait. Keep in mind that hosts that actually meet 99.9%+ uptime are almost guaranteed to have 24/7 support and some type of port/process monitoring.

Support, hands down.. Without support, eventually you will be stuck with no resolution.

Cheap prices are great, but if your site goes down, how does that help?

Reliability? Okay sure, but eventually that server will need a reboot, or the drive is going to fail, with bad support, what if it takes days for correction? Or they don't have backups and you loose everything?

Reviews can and are easily faked, it's a very bad idea to go to a host based on reviews and/or "top" sites.

Age is also not a good factor, old companies can get larger and care less about providing top quality support and know that if you left, there is another client right behind you (or two) that will be taking your place.

Of those, 24/7 Support

Agreed with you there Steve, I think support is an absolute necessity to a business. I get asked this all the time by hosting buddies of mine and they're always saying well isn't 99% uptime also a necessity and I always answer it is wanted but if you have 24/7 Support your problems going to get sorted as long as the agents aren't apes. :)

- Many Thanks,
