US Navy locked into Microsoft Azure as cloud dependency exposed

The US Navy admitted it cannot separate its custom-built NAVSEA Cloud from Microsoft Azure without rebuilding the system entirely, a process that could take three years and double costs. Despite cybersecurity failures linked to Microsoft, Navy officials said only Azure meets current mission requirements. Rival providers AWS, Google, and Oracle confirmed they could not match service parity. Future contracts may shift to open standards to avoid vendor lock-in.
