The gap between shared hosting and a full dedicated server has always been an awkward one to fill. Rad Web Hosting is betting its expanded cPanel VPS lineup can close it, giving businesses dedicated resources without the dedicated-server price tag.
The Dallas-based hosting provider announced the expansion this week, aimed at developers, agencies, and resellers who’ve outgrown shared hosting but don’t necessarily need or want the overhead of managing bare-metal hardware. Each VPS runs on KVM virtualization, meaning customers get a fully independent server, complete with its own operating system and kernel, rather than sharing resources with hundreds of other accounts the way shared hosting works.
CEO Scott Claeys said the company built the platform around a simple idea: give customers enterprise-level infrastructure without pricing out smaller businesses. Pairing that infrastructure with cPanel, still the most widely used hosting control panel around, gives customers dedicated CPU, RAM, and storage allocations without forcing them to learn command-line server administration from scratch.
Storage is one area where Rad Web Hosting is leaning in specifically. Every VPS ships with NVMe SSD storage, which handles disk operations considerably faster than older spinning-disk drives, something that matters for anyone running WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, or similar resource-hungry platforms where page load speed affects both user experience and search rankings.
Security comes bundled in as well: enterprise firewalls, DDoS mitigation, free SSL certificates, and isolated virtual environments that keep one customer’s server activity from affecting anyone else’s, a meaningful upgrade from the resource contention that can happen on shared hosting plans.
For businesses without an in-house sysadmin, the company also offers fully managed plans covering updates, security hardening, and performance tuning. Developers who want more hands-on control can stick with self-managed VPS instances and retain full root access instead.
Scalability anchors the pitch too. When a site starts pulling in more traffic, customers can add memory, swap in faster processors, or expand storage without touching the underlying server, a flexibility that agencies juggling multiple client sites or SaaS companies bracing for unpredictable growth will find hard to overlook.
Rad Web Hosting also offers migration assistance for businesses moving over from another provider, along with 24/7 technical support for anything from server configuration to troubleshooting.
