For years, companies running private clouds faced an unwritten tradeoff: keep tight control over their environment, or move fast. Rackspace Technology says its new platform, Rackspace Cloud, removes that choice. Built on Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1, the fully managed multitenant service launched first in Dallas, with North Virginia and Chicago set to follow.
Rackspace built the platform to give enterprises access to modern tools like Kubernetes and containerized applications, while keeping the VMware governance and operational control many organizations already depend on. The company counts itself among a small group of Broadcom Advantage Partners authorized to deliver VCF-based managed cloud services, and it’s one of the first providers offering a fully managed multitenant platform on VCF 9.1 specifically.
Private infrastructure is pulling ahead for certain workloads right now, and the timing shows it. Broadcom’s Private Cloud Outlook 2026 found that 56% of organizations run or plan to run production AI inference in a private cloud, while public cloud use for that same purpose dropped from 56% to 41% year over year.
“For years organizations operating private clouds have had to choose between agility or control,” said Bryan Litchford, Rackspace’s Head of Product, Engineering, and Data Centers. He said the platform lets customers scale in hours instead of waiting through procurement cycles, since Rackspace stages capacity in advance and manages the lifecycle automatically.
Broadcom’s Ricky Cooper, who leads Global Cloud Service Providers, OEM and eOEM, framed the partnership as pairing Rackspace’s operational experience with Broadcom’s private cloud platform, giving enterprises a managed route toward better agility, security, and cost control.
The platform bundles virtual machines and Kubernetes workloads together, along with enterprise-grade isolation, security, and governance controls. It also includes lifecycle management, multiple performance tiers, and round-the-clock managed operations.
Rackspace will demonstrate the platform at VMware Explore 2026 in Las Vegas, running August 31 through September 3, where the company holds Diamond Sponsor status and will host a session on managing costs and security in the AI era.
