Nexcess integrates Acronis threat detection into managed cloud servers, with portal alerts

Nexcess has added Acronis Endpoint Detection and Response to its managed cloud services, so eligible customers can now watch their servers for threats and receive incident alerts in the Nexcess portal. The optional service is available today. It tracks server activity, flags suspicious behavior and gives customers tools to investigate and contain a possible attack.

The timing reflects a shift in the threat landscape. AI tools have made some attack techniques easier to build and automate, yet the practical problem for hosting customers has not changed. They still need to spot suspicious activity quickly and work out what actually happened. EDR addresses that by supplementing antivirus protection. Instead of relying only on known threat signatures, it examines behavior that may point to a compromise, including activity that matches no known threat.

Setup stays simple on the customer side, because Nexcess handles installation and activation. Once the service runs, portal alerts identify the affected server, the severity of the incident, what the software detected and whether the threat has been contained. From any incident, customers can open the Acronis console directly to dig deeper and reach the response tools.

Billing and support follow the same pattern. Acronis EDR appears on the same invoice as the customer’s other Nexcess services, and Nexcess support helps with setup, access and questions about alerts. Customers who already use Acronis Backup or Disaster Recovery through Nexcess can rely on the Acronis agent already installed on their servers, which may spare them an extra deployment step.

For Nexcess, the addition places server hosting and another layer of security inside one customer relationship. Michael Ohayon, general manager of managed cloud at Nexcess, said the goal is to help customers recognize when something goes wrong on a server and act on it, while dealing with a single provider for both infrastructure and protection.

Even so, buyers should still ask practical questions before switching the service on. Alerts only help when someone reads them and responds, so teams need to decide who watches the portal and how quickly they will react. Pricing details also were not part of the announcement, so customers should confirm costs with Nexcess directly.
