Newforma signs seven-year deal to move construction software to AWS cloud

Construction and engineering firms have been slower than most industries to move core operations into the cloud, and Newforma is betting a new seven-year agreement with AWS can change that for its own customer base.

The project and information management software company, which serves the architecture, engineering, construction, and owner industry, announced the deal this week, aimed at accelerating cloud adoption, expanding AI capabilities, and rebuilding the technology foundation behind its platform. AWS will support a broad modernization effort spanning Newforma’s product lineup, while zeb, an AI and cloud engineering firm and AWS Premier Tier Partner, is handling much of the technical groundwork, from migration assessment to building new AI-powered tools for compliance and document review.

CEO Peter Cannone framed the partnership as the next phase in a multi-year push to help AECO firms embrace digital transformation, something the company has approached through both on-premise and cloud solutions over the years. He said deepening the AWS relationship gives customers more flexibility, stronger security, and a foundation suited to the AI-powered workflows increasingly shaping how construction and engineering projects get managed.

The work itself touches several parts of Newforma’s platform: modernizing the cloud infrastructure behind Project Center, continuing development on the cloud-native Konekt platform using AWS services, and a parallel initiative to build toward FedRAMP compliance readiness, a step that matters for customers working in regulated or government-adjacent projects.

Mal Vivek, zeb’s CEO, said the collaboration moved fast, going from an initial AI push to multiple production workloads running on Amazon Bedrock in under a year, eventually growing into this longer-term commitment with AWS. Rich Geraffo, AWS’s VP for North America, described the partnership as unlocking generative AI capabilities for AECO firms specifically, paired with cloud infrastructure built to handle demanding project workloads.

For Newforma’s CTO Ben Bazso, the deal reaches further than typical infrastructure work. He described it as something that both reinforces the platform customers rely on today and carves out room for new AI features, deeper integrations, and continued development well into the future, giving customers more performance and flexibility as their needs shift.

Work is already underway across both Project Center and Konekt, laying groundwork for what Newforma is positioning as a more intelligent, cloud-powered approach to project delivery in an industry that’s historically been slower to modernize than most.
