InMotion Hosting wants a president to double its size

Few founders admit in public that they stretched themselves too thin. Todd Robinson just did, and he attached a $300,000 salary to the fix.

InMotion Hosting is searching for a president and chief operating officer who would run the company day to day and answer for its profit and loss. The target start is the first quarter of 2027. Robinson, who co-founded the hosting provider with Sunil Saxena, will step into the chief executive seat once the new hire arrives. He announced the search in a LinkedIn video, saying he wants to double the business.

His explanation stands out for its candor. Robinson blames missing execution basics and the fact that he also runs OpenMetal and MyaiOne. The company he describes is profitable, earns recurring revenue and employs more than 200 people who serve small and mid-sized businesses, 25 years after launch.

The handover looks deliberate. For roughly four months, the new executive would shadow Robinson, then co-run the company, then take over. After that, the CEO would review progress monthly or quarterly with the board. Meanwhile, the posting asks for someone with private equity style discipline, meaning hard targets and regular board reporting, ideally from a recurring-revenue business near InMotion’s market.

Where does the growth come from? Hosting still brings in a large share of revenue, yet InMotion expects its cloud and infrastructure arm to expand faster. The company sells bare metal and cloud services, runs AI workloads on its own GPUs and rents out AI infrastructure. Robinson also names global sales as a gap the new president would eventually close. On AI itself, he says it should help employees, not replace them.

Operations come first, though. The posting says the board built its 2027 goals around what the market should support once execution improves. The president would lead KPI and OKR meetings, decide which roles the plan requires, and nudge Robinson back whenever he drifts into product, engineering or sales work.

Succession sits in the background as well. InMotion says it has a plan for its founders, and it promises a clear route to advancement for anyone who grows the business over several years. Whoever takes the job inherits a quarter century of history and a founder who already admits what he cannot do alone.
