Google Cloud, Nutanix widen hybrid cloud flexibility with NC2 launch

Google Cloud and Nutanix have taken a step that many enterprise teams have quietly waited for. The companies announced the general availability of Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Google Cloud, a move that gives businesses a more flexible way to modernize applications without tearing apart systems that already work. The launch reflects a growing need across large organizations to blend on-premises infrastructure with cloud resources while avoiding the cost and uncertainty of full rebuilds.

Nutanix now allows customers to run NC2 directly on Google Compute Engine. That shift gives teams a path to move regulated or highly specialized workloads into the cloud while keeping the same operational behavior they rely on in their local environments. Because NC2 uses the same tools and policies across locations, engineers can shift workloads without setting up fresh rule sets or rewriting code. For many companies, that small detail brings a level of predictability that hybrid cloud deployments often lack.

The collaboration also opens a direct bridge to Google Cloud’s data and AI services. Applications running on NC2 can tap into BigQuery, Gemini Enterprise and Vertex AI, creating a clear route for organizations that want to add analytics or machine learning capabilities without displacing their core systems. Industry teams that manage complex operational environments say this type of arrangement gives them the breathing room to modernize without creating another multi-year restructuring plan.

Nutanix executives pointed to practical benefits such as consistent operations across environments, simpler disaster recovery and the ability to increase cloud capacity during high demand. Those points carry weight for sectors that manage peak traffic cycles or strict availability requirements. License portability also gives technology leaders more control over long-term cloud spending, which has become a sensitive topic for many boards.

Both companies emphasized that customers can manage their combined environments through Nutanix Prism Central. That single interface reduces the amount of retraining normally associated with hybrid adoption and cuts the number of dashboards teams must monitor. Nutanix also confirmed that NC2 licensing will soon appear in Google Cloud Marketplace, allowing customers to use existing commitments for Nutanix software and streamline billing.

The rollout arrives at a time when enterprises increasingly look for hybrid approaches that reduce uncertainty rather than create it. With NC2 now available on Google Cloud, many organizations gain a clearer path to modernize at a pace they control.
