Building a website from scratch has always meant staring down two blank spaces at once: the layout and the actual content to fill it. DreamHost‘s Remixer, its AI website builder, is chipping away at the second problem with a new update that adds video generation to its existing chat-based toolkit.
The headline feature lets users generate video clips just by describing what they want in plain language. Small business owners can now get cinematic hero footage, looping backgrounds, or scroll-triggered motion without touching stock footage libraries or a video editor. Uploaded video and audio also now sit in the same media library as images, so everything a site owner needs lives in one place instead of scattered across separate tools.
Alongside video, DreamHost rolled out a new design system built around what the customer actually describes wanting, rather than defaulting to templates that resemble other sites in the same category. The company also upgraded Remixer‘s image generation, aiming for sharper and more distinctive visuals instead of the generic AI-art look that’s become easy to spot.
None of this changes what Remixer fundamentally does: build full websites and web apps, complete with pages, copy, databases, user accounts, and payment processing, all through conversation rather than manual setup, running on DreamHost’s own hosting infrastructure.
Ralph Castro, DreamHost’s VP of Product, described the tool’s philosophy fairly bluntly: most website builders leave you staring at a blank page and hoping for the best, while Remixer handles that part itself. Tell it what look you’re going for, he said, and it generates the images and video to match, leaving the user mostly just picking what they like.
For a market crowded with AI website builders promising similar things, DreamHost’s bet here is that visual generation, not just layout automation, is what separates a site that looks generic from one that looks intentional.
Remixer starts at $9.99 a month, which includes hosting, a global CDN, SSL, and 24/7 support bundled in. DreamHost is offering a 30-day free trial with no credit card required for anyone who wants to try it before committing.
