CoreWeave gives robot combat teams an AI cloud edge in BattleBots

CoreWeave is stepping into an unexpected corner of the AI world: robot combat. The cloud computing company just signed on as the Official AI Cloud Partner of BattleBots and its new Pro League, putting its infrastructure directly into the hands of teams who spend their time building machines that tear each other apart for sport.

It’s a strange-sounding pairing until you think about what BattleBots teams actually do. They’re not just welders and mechanics. Many of these teams run simulations, test designs digitally before committing to metal, and optimize fighting strategy using the same kind of computing horsepower that AI labs rely on. CoreWeave is betting that giving them real cloud infrastructure, rather than just a sponsorship logo, will matter more to this audience than a typical ad deal would.

As part of the deal, BattleBots teams get access to CoreWeave’s AI Cloud platform as they prepare for the 2027 Pro League season. CoreWeave’s branding will also show up around the BattleBots Arena in Las Vegas this year, including a sponsored clock that marks key moments during fights, plus an Innovation Award that lets fans vote on the most creative or technically ambitious team before organizers name a winner.

Jean English, CoreWeave’s chief marketing officer, said BattleBots draws engineers who push hardware to its limits, move fast, and compete at the edge of what’s technically possible, framing the partnership as a natural match for that kind of builder mindset.

BattleBots CEO Edward Roski echoed that view, pointing out that competing teams tackle genuinely difficult engineering challenges, and access to serious cloud infrastructure gives them a real edge rather than just a logo on the wall.

What this sponsorship actually does for CoreWeave’s broader AI cloud ambitions remains to be seen. But it does say something about where companies see their next audience: not just data scientists and enterprise buyers, but the scrappy, hands-on engineers who build things that occasionally explode on live television.
