South Korea’s smaller companies finally get an affordable compliance shortcut

Small companies in South Korea have faced the same problem for years: personal data laws demand serious access controls, but building those controls properly usually takes a security team most small businesses cannot afford. Naver Cloud thinks it has found a shortcut.

The company launched DSAC, short for DB and Server Access Control, on the 22nd. It bundles permission management, activity logging, and audit tools for any server or database that touches personal information into a single service, rather than the patchwork of separate systems companies typically had to assemble themselves.

The mechanics are fairly clever. DSAC automatically builds proxy servers inside a customer’s virtual network and routes every connection through them, which means administrators only need to manage one path instead of juggling access rules across dozens of individual systems. They can set exactly which users reach which servers and databases, and the proxies spin up and shut down on their own as needs change. The system automatically logs every action taken on a server or database, masking sensitive details like resident registration numbers and card numbers before anything reaches storage.

That logging requirement is not optional in South Korea. The Personal Information Protection Act requires companies to keep access logs for at least a year and permission change records for three, and enforcement has grown less forgiving over time. Companies used to meet that bar by building separate access control systems from scratch, which meant hiring specialists just to configure and babysit the infrastructure. DSAC skips that step entirely since it runs as SaaS straight from the Naver Cloud console.

Kim Jae-dong, the company’s chief information security officer, said the service differs from older approaches because companies can set up an access control environment directly from the console without complicated installation work. Naver Cloud also built in anomaly detection that flags things like off-hours logins or unusually large data pulls, giving companies a chance to catch internal threats before they escalate.

Naver Cloud says DSAC stands as the only cloud-native access control service that targets Korea‘s domestic regulatory requirements from the ground up, reaching smaller companies that never had the headcount to manage this kind of compliance on their own.
