Emerging trends in hosting industry

There is new terms like "wordpress hosting" but usually this is just marketing and a regular shared hosting plan is the same thing in fact.

I don't see anything new other than that.

Depends on the host, but yes, there's a bunch of places that claim "optimized" etc, but they don't go the extra step.

I am with a couple of hosts that truly are Wordpress Optimized with extra server features and restrictions. Some only allow you to upload plugins and themes, the core of Wordpress is in a different environment and optimized. Those I would trust more than someone just claiming optimized.

The big trends that I'm seeing now, and they've been around for a while, are backups and cloud hosted. Many hosts have moved away from the individual server and are now using some form of cloud or grid.

In the SEO world, TTFB (Time To First Byte) is something they watch for, and I've begun to see hosts claiming to have the lowest TTFB or showing their TTFB.

Years ago, hosts used to offer a sample 5MB, 50MB and 100MB file that you could download and see how the speed is. This appears to now have trickled over to the TTFB and similar requests.

I agree with @bigredseo that sometimes this is just a marketing ploy but sometimes it isn't. We offer managed WordPress hosting and we actually do quite a lot which makes it different from regular shared hosting.

I think LiteSpeed hosting rather than Nginx or Apache is definitely an increasing 'trend'.

An emerging trend in web hosting is cloud hosting. Actually, it has already emerged but it gaining popularity each passing day as more and more developers are looking for a flexible and pay-as-you-go solutions.

It looks to me that services like "High Availability Hosting" and various failover services and as well as geographically dispersed services will become popular in 2021/22.

The future is going to be Cloud Computing. The term Cloud is getting hike day by day like Bitcoin.

and how are you defining 'Cloud Computing' in this statement?

It's one of those terms that don't necessarily mean very much at the moment.

cloud is just a marketing term as at the end of the day is just a type of server with a HDD
Can't agree. Nowadays, dedicated servers are coming upto 6TB SSD Drives, if you sell HDD by naming SSD client will able to recognize that by running a few commands.

HDD or SSD it is still just a disc drive, so cloud is just a marketing term and nothing more.
