Oh boy, haven't heard the term in a while, but they're still around - usually in the form of a popup instead.

The "squeeze" is the getting of an email address from someone. "You give me your email, I'll let you read the rest of the article."

They're not too common anymore as a higher focus on conversion and the actual sale seems to have taken over. Now it's setup more as a paywall - "you pay me $1.00 and you can read the rest, and we will enroll you in 'X' "

Personally, never found a use for them. As much as I hate popups, offering a discount is still done on most sites, and it works. I don't recall signing up, or giving an email address for something in many years (other than forums etc). There are times when I'm hunting for code, and I find part of it, then it needs an email address for me to see the rest. I close those windows and go to the next item in Google search.

A while? I don't think I've ever heard of the term. Pop ups — sure, landing — definitely. Squeeze — funny name, but nothing comes to mind. :)

As long as it's not the first thing that pops up upon landing on a site. I can't stand these pop-ups offering a discount in exchange for a newsletter sign up, but before I even know what they are selling. I never sign up for these.
