Rainbow washing / June 2021

As of the start of 2021, 29 countries worldwide recognise same sex marriages, while all 195 countries recognise male-female marriage.
I can agree, that one part of this statement is slightly terrifying.

In 71 countries worldwide, homosexual sexual activity is illegal, in many it is actively punished with prison sentences and/or forms of physical punishment, in one the death penalty is still actively used for.
Is it worse than political repression? Even if some exclusive countries keep such strict laws, they are rarely applied, because authorities understand, that there's nothing actually to punish for. Middle East is different world. Death penalty is also a separate topic - nowadays it just doesn't seem appropriate. But look at some states in the US. Quite a western state.

Pride is not the problem, the problem is large (or small) companies who jump onto causes that they don't necessarily understand, support, or care about and commercialising them.
This movement itself started to commercialize their activity, IMO. What we see now with rainbow washing is a result, not a cause. Obey the rainbow.

No, it's not worse, and I never implied that it was, but it isn't any more acceptable either. Neither of them are ok.

Actually that's not why the movement started, back in the 60's it was to draw attention to inequality. But it is absolutely true that what it has changed into today is something unrecognisable from those origins, and is controversial among the LGBT community as well.

Exactly!

yes, companies use these as marketing tools, usually to get rid of old/out-of-season stock.
I used to have a market stall selling toys and I traded at many events including local pride. i was great at first, it started as a 1-day event and only cost £120 for 12 ft stall, then it becomes a pride weekend event and trading handed to an events company to managed and this jumped from £120 for 1 day to £1,500 for the weekend, so i stopped going
