Do you often meet someone and five minutes later, forget their name?

I wrote this some years back, but even now, I sometimes find myself guilty of this as well:

I recently attended a conference sponsored by Yellow Tie where the guest speaker mingled with the attendees minutes prior, then started by asking everyone he had talked to, to stand up – we’re talking twenty to thirty people he had never seen or met previously.

He then proceeded to ask them to sit down if he remembered their name and association – and one-by-one he called out all but two. How many times do you meet a prospect, exchange cards, chat briefly, then five minutes later cannot remember their name? Networking is a learned skill perfected via practice.

Who else is guilty of this and what do you recommend to improve your networking skills?

Always happens to me, yet people i went to school with ( i left school in 1982) i could see out and about and remember their names without a problem.

I've seen a few shows where people have done this and it's very impressive. Myself, I rely on whoever I'm with to introduce themselves so we get a name refresher (both for me, and the party I'm talking to).

We had neighbors move in to the house beside us, and I remember introducing myself and I wrote down their names (somewhere) but now, for the life of me, I can't remember their names. Every few days when I see them outside, they always wave and say "hey Conor, how's it going" and the same with my wife. It feels really weird asking their name again - they've been there for a year now! :)

Went to a local business breakfast get together a few weeks back and this guy started chatting to me and calling me by my name, but for the life of me i could not remember his name and i think he saw this in my expressions trying to figure out who he was, when he told me i made the excuse that i had been to several meetings in then last few weeks so hard to remembers everyones names

I've also been the "funny guy" in these scenarios where saying - "alright, introduction time - I'm Conor and I do SEO, and you are?" - and without missing a beat, each one will say their name.

I am terrible with names and I forget them all the time. My memory in general has gotten worse.

But names is a weak spot. It actually gets so bad that on occasion if I have to introduce two people I know to each other, I may forget their names... :D
