Free Firewall for Centos?

Hi,
I require a free firewall solution for Centos for a client of mine.I dont know any good ones and wanted to ask that would the DDoS protection and ssl certification enough for his private project which operates over UDP and a web server.

CentOS, and every other *ix based server already has a firewall built in, iptables .
CSF , as mentioned is a great frontend for iptables, but it's not a firewall in and of itself.

CSF again (and some in the house "sentinels"). But if you talk about DDos protection that is another story....

I have to agree that CSF is a pretty good front-end for IPTables. Beyond that LFD which comes with CSF is very nice.

CSF can only handle minor DDOS protection due to the limitation on your bandwidth pipe You will need to subscribe to third party DDOS protection to overcome this.

The fact that CSF only handles minor protection has more to do with server resources than the actual bandwidth , though bandwidth has a slight bit to do with it.

The server itself can only handle so many requests and processes before overloading. Continually flooding the server with requests is going to do precisely what CSF is there to prevent, overload it.

In the end, yes, either a 3rd party DDOS protection service, or that of your provider is going to be needed for a true DDOS.

I recommend CSF as well as a best software firewall option
You can also enable csf build in Gui or install Webmin to access the GUI.

Another vote for CSF. Easy to work with and is run by many of our customers.

DDOS attack can definitely swam your network connection way beyond what the server can handle. A couple of years ago, we saw a DDOS attack that was using 40Gbps of bandwidth.

Hi,

Iptables are good, but at times becomes difficult to manage for new users. The most common one used is the CSF and APF.

CSF is the first choice and 99 of the 100 cPanel servers has it.. because CSF is easy to configure and manage. On the other hand APF is also good one, same as CSF.

Another vote for CSF, very easy to unblock an ip through WHMCS with a free addon also so your customers can sort them selves out.
