Hi hosting pros,

Just thought would be interesting to share what's the best way to promote your business, where and how much do you spend monthly for advertising?

Spending cash on online advertising is very easy but it is so significant to have clear plans in mind, handpick the portals that will contain your ads and put your commercial items before eyes of the potential customers. This is one reason why services like PPC programs are workable these days because the visits will be usually paid by potential customers and people interested in your web products.

Targeted traffic seems to be the key today in the business online world, so instead of aggressively promoting your site online, try to find those forums, blogs, directories and sites that are accessed by webmasters and individuals who look for hosting accounts. This way, even if you are running a brand-new business, generating some sales seems to be logical due to doing right advertising.

Put a girl with big boobs on your front page.
Now seriously - every business is different and you have to choose your own advertising strategy. Some companies relay on big and expensive advertising campaigns and some prefer to get new clients by word of mouth. The later are usually the much more loyal clients and stay with you almost forever. So IMHO the best advertising strategy should be making your current customers happy.

we do very little online adverts as we found these a waste of time and money. we get by through word of mouth referrals and adverts in show programmes that we advertise in when we trade at country shows etc. with our other business

For us Google Adwords works really good, even better that banner ads, this is also great because it automatically improves your position in search results.
I think online advertisements methods for the online businesses are best, though it also depends on a company size and product/services offering.

Local business exposure and word is mouth is definitely the most powerful tool for advertising, but can both negatively and positively affect your brand. As bermuda has advised, targeted traffic is definitely key. You need to ensure that your adverts are being seen by potential clients. Try a backwards approach to this. Think about the clientele type that your services cater to and what type of websites these people would frequent and advertise there.

I use direct marketing I just go out the door and knock on business doors, with just 10 clients I am still new so I keep trying to meet people who need websites and offer hosting also. Enjoy

To Sonwebhost: What is percentage of success for direct marketing? for example, how many business doors you knock to get one client? thanks

if you divide 70k by 10years you get 7000 per year website design is about 2k so just four websites per year makes it over that time period. I get about 1 in 10 that is normal for anything you try. I hit door three days a week. Just started one for kirkbootcamp.com 1000 for the website and 9.95/month for the hosting he paid 7 months in advance and bought 1 domain. Try it

Just try different methods at the same time.
Spread your budget well and carefully.
Do not only try something and give up; Keep studying your campaigns and think of ways to coming up with better ideas.

from my past experience, I almost spent $1000 inadvertising but I finally only got 10 client with $50 revenue.
maybe my advertising plan is not good enough.

In my opinion, forum posting is beneficial. It doesn't take much time to post 2-3 forum posts with proper information. If people find value in your posts, they will surely come to your website looking for more information. However, when it comes to forum posting, abiding by the rules set out by the webmaster is extremely important for having a long term association.
