Where do you buy servers and network gear in EU,US and Asia?

Where do you buy servers and network gear in EU,US and Asia?
Do you buy from amazon and ebay or just from certified vendors?
 
There is also companies that refurbishes servers as well. If you don't want to pay full price for the servers than this option might be what you are looking for.
 
I used to buy direct from SuperMicro distributors. I have bought from eBay and through amazon stores too. It just comes down to what you need and if the system is prebuilt with burn-in time.

I can't recall the place we used to purchase in Santa Clara, CA, (i thin it was acmemicro) but I would drive from Southern California to their place (about 6 hours) and would buy 20 1u servers at a time.

I've purchased thousands of gigs of memory through Amazon, and also purchased hard drives in bulk (each server we had was configured in Raid5 or Raid10, so that was 3 or 4 drives for each device, and alter Raid50 (6 drive systems).

Buying direct from Dell is a great option if you can get the price low enough, but if your buying just a couple of machines, it's often better to even try your local distributors and ask them to special order the systems for you. Usually, their bulk price is going to come out lower then you can get going direct.

Also, don't forget the place where you're putting the hardware. Datacenters are usually partners too, and many of them will let you purchase their equipment or they can purchase on your behalf.

Side note: If you're in the Omaha Nebraska area and want some of my old equipment (P4's and the like), come by with a truck and take them away. I think I have 50 of them sitting in the garage :) They are older equipment however, machines that haven't been used since before 2008 and costs me more money to get rid of them than to just store them :)

For Servers/PCs I hate buy off the shelve models as 9/10 they use cheap components that wont last long before you have to replace them.

I always went to Dell for mine so i could customise to my liking until i got a Dell Vostro 200 and i had nothing but issues even though i kept using it for 8 years, i then started to look for a replacement and i was speaking to an IT guy at local college who mentioned the company that takes all their old machines.
I took a look at their website and found a suitable refurb. with specs that would do me for £120 + another £20 to have a second disc drive fitted (SSD), 4 years down then line and still working great and touch wood never needed to upgrade anything
 
In the UK for servers we tend to custom build from OEM parts and sometimes use a barebones base from someone like Supermicro. For comms gear we tend to use Comms Express as their customer service has always been top notch.
 
We go direct to Dell or HP for servers. Network equipment depends on the device we need, but again direct to the manufacturer if possible.
 
One of the guy told me to look into ebay but there a lots of options there. I would like to know if someone can refere me a good source from where I can buy used server. I am looking for E5 series with lots of ram and space. We are going for colo and just looking for the right server in cheapest price.

If you are going to Colo, check with the center you're looking to house in. They may have a direct line to a place, or may even have machines on site that you could purchase.

Be careful buying used equipment, especially ones that you won't have direct access to. If something fails, you need to have a part on hand. Used equipment in that case is not normally something I'd recommend as getting the same part can be tricky sometimes (depending on age of device).

CDW has a decent range of refurbished devices - I'd much rather see you go that route on a random ebay sale.
 
Official Distributors or Direct from the Manufacturers.

Be careful with used equipment, the savings had can quickly diminish if you have any issues.

Your right one of the colo firm also told me they have rigs for sale which we can easily colo with them and I am currently under negotiation with them. Would save the hassle shipment etc.
