Your every day problem.

So I was reading Nicholas Carr's (http://www.nicholasgcarr.com/info.shtml) blog the other day, and a very interesting article suggested that to succeed as a business you have to solve every-day problems of your users.

As a forum serving web hosting businesses' needs, what is/are your every day problems that you experience in running your company?

Best,

Spot on, Artashes. I agree 100%. When going through the average day, most people come up against problems, inconveniences, nuisances, and do nothing more than bitch a bit about it, then move on. Only a few will look at that as an opportunity.

In addition to what you've said, when someone comes along and solves at least 1 small but real problem for the user, bigger problems of your business will work themselves out in the long run. So what is suggested, basically, focus on the small things, and not big things.

Same reason why many new startups getting over $100M in financing tank by taking way too much responsibilities that they can handle.

That's exactly what I think it takes to succeed in any business.

There are many many many examples of some very amazing inventions/products/services... that nobody needs or wants. And the developer/owner spends millions to promote it.. and get's nothing.

But then someone comes along and starts selling something that saves you 1 minutes every day.. and they make millions, because everyone wants to save a minute!

Anyway....

We've built our business around the understanding that our clients have too much stress in their lives, caused by the constant "wondering" if their website and/or email is working.

So all our marketing material is designed to help our potential customers "see" that we can remove that stress from their life. :)

I am actually was interested in hearing what YOUR every-day problem(s) is/are, as a web hosting company.

Oh.. sorry about that. I didn't understand your question.

Ummm... my most annoying "everyday" problem is that I need a centralized way to track "everything" to do with the company.

Something that "plugs in" to all our different software, that I can look at, at anytime, to get an overview/snapshot of how things are going.. both from operational and management/financial point of view.

ie: A "dashboard" that shows:

- key billing stats (taken from modernbill), like # of day's signups, total revenue for month, etc.
- key stats from our accounting program (quickbooks) that shows total expenses for month, etc.
- Server status stats, to make sure the admins are doing their jobs...
- Helpdesk stats (intellodesk), to show # of open/active tickets, today's avg response time, etc.

Basically, as the owner of the business.. I want something I can load up on my computer and "see" an immediate overview of the entire business, from one end to the other.

It's an impossible request, because it would be so difficult to retrieve all that info from the different systems, etc.. :disagree:

I get alot of questions about how to install a script or "Do you know of any good scripts?" for a specific purpose. The most reoccuring thing is when one of my customers is trying to install something and its already in fantastico or cpaddons. My most common answer is "You know you can install that automatically in fantastico, right?" :D I wouldnt call that a "problem" but its definately cool when you point something out that helps.
