Work in this industry

Is there anything that you really dred about your work in the hosting world? The only thing so far that has been a let down is that I have still missed Hostingcon for the past two years. Otherwise I love what I do, even when there are stressing times. I remember someone once told me that if you love what you do, its not really work. I guess I just play around all day then. :)

I have yet to experience anything negative from this industry. But from all the stories I read about so far in the forum I'm beginning to be afraid... very afraid. Hopefully like you I'll always love this.

The only thing that can get to me at times are the hostile / rude clients. Other then that I love my job and I couldn't see myself doing anything else. Great topic.

Well. the only thing that I didn't like recently was trying to communicate with a client who only spoke Spanish. He occasionally used a few English words when he demanding a refund but when he complained about his hosting problems I couldn't understand a word at all :(. Luckily this has happened once. If it happened every time, I would be pretty angry since I don't understand a word they're saying.

There's not much in the industry that is disapointing to our business personally. I feel bad for so many people attempting to start out in the business and think that it's an easy task, realize that it's not and then end up "dumping" clients or abandoning them. The issue then becomes that the client doesn't trust ANY host. The good thing is that after they've hosted with us a few days (or weeks) they see we're a TOTALLY different type of operation.

Vacations are the only thing that I miss. I rarely get to take off 100% as I'm always around on call for employees etc, but those times that I DO get to leave, coming back after a week I always dread what type of mess will be left. Thankfully, it's never that bad.

So the only other thing that I don't look forward to are exploits in software. Many customers believe that since the software is operating on our servers, that WE should be the ones to make the updates, and don't understand the concept between designer, programmer and hosting company. We ONLY deal with hosting - everything else is referred to other companies.

As previously said - do what you love ;) I've been doing this since 1994. I'm still doing it ;) There is a LOT of freedom in this business.

Wow nice post!

I dont have any major complaints, although It would be nice to have a holiday go by without having to deal with phone calls and emails about issues that pop up out of nowhere :)

Yes, I agree with you it is a great pleasure to work with good customers and it is difficult to support rude ones!

I almost like dealing with rude clients because I always talk professional and never let them get to me. Since opening my business I've had only one bad client and the funny part was after I explained everything to him he knew
he was wrong and felt bad after words. :D

The I want everything for nothing clients can sometimes get on my nerves. They're typically the most needy in the long term as well

It's because of this industry I have enjoyed the beauty of a Sunset and Sunrise, all during the same day (not technically)... lol!

Right out the horses mouth. I love this industry and everything that comes with it - it can be stressful at times but you learn to love it.

The only bad thing that comes with my job is a chubby stomach (not saying I am fat) but boy can I type fast :P :crash:

This industry keeps evolving. It is a fine industry to work with except sometimes you have some demanding clients.

It always a good feeling when you help your clients resolving their problems.

The only thing I hate is having to do marketing/advertising as it's not my forte. Maybe someday I'll have a "guy for that" :)

For now I take care of it all myself.

I love the hosting industry!
I have a real job and do this for a fun time!
Even do I like the money but if I worked for some one for free I would do it.
